Readers deserve to know who stands behind a news organization and who pays for it, because money and ownership can shape coverage. This page sets out what is true about Pulse News Update today and what we commit to disclose in future.
Ownership
Pulse News Update is an independent launch project operating the website pulsenewsupdate.com. During the launch edition it is run by a small editorial team. We have not yet finalized a formal ownership structure for a full newsroom, and we will publish those details on this page, including the names of any owners or controlling shareholders, before we begin publishing reported news.
Funding today
- No advertising. The site shows no ads and does not use advertising networks.
- No sponsors. No company, foundation or government pays for coverage or for the site.
- No paid subscriptions yet. Everything on the site is free to read, and the Morning Pulse newsletter is not yet sending.
Running costs during the launch edition are modest and are covered by the people building the project.
Future funding
A sustainable newsroom needs revenue. Options we are considering include voluntary reader support, an optional paid tier for premium newsletters or audio, and carefully separated sponsorship of events or newsletters. We will not accept funding that comes with editorial conditions, and we will not run advertising based on tracking individual readers.
Our commitments
- Any source of funding that provides a meaningful share of our budget will be listed here.
- Funders will have no role in editorial decisions and no preview of stories.
- When we cover an organization that funds us, we will say so in the story.
- Changes to this page will be dated so readers can see what changed and when.
