Homicide detectives are waiting to interview a man in hospital after a mother was stabbed to death in a Melbourne home.
Lavanya Achanta, 39, was found dead in a Vermont home about 10pm on Tuesday, allegedly stabbed by her husband Srinivas Achanta.

Mr Achanta, 39, was found injured at the home and was taken to hospital under police guard. He was expected to be questioned by police on Wednesday evening.
Neighbours told 9News the couple were lovely, quiet people who largely kept to themselves.

They moved to the street in Melbourne’s east with their two children two years ago.
“Very sad, very sad set of circumstances. Hard to believe it’s happened not too far from our house,” neighbour Jenny said.
“Nothing like this ever happens here so yeah, it’s very unfortunate.”
It’s unclear what exactly unfolded between the couple, but emergency services received a call just before 10pm and rushed to the scene.

“I heard sirens basically, and I looked out the window and I saw all these cop cars driving up and then I saw an ambulance,” neighbour Chloe said.
Homicide detectives descended on Delatite Court on Wednesday morning, cordoning off the street for hours as they removed bags of evidence from the home.
Mrs Achanta is the 36th woman this year to die in Australia allegedly as a result of violence.
