Chil-ling Twist in British Woman Suitcase De-a-th Case as Investigators Hunt for Witnesses Who Could Unlock the Truth

GREEK cops are said to be “seriously contemplating” suffocation as the cause of death of the Scottish woman found in a suitcase in Athens.

Elisabeth-Jane Ross was discovered by a homeless man in a derelict building in the Kypseli district of the Greek capital on July 18.

Greek authorities say headway is being made in unmasking the mystery case.

The possibility Elisabeth was suffocated is being “seriously contemplated” given the lack of evident injuries on her body, a well placed source told the Sun.

“They have had a lot of successes when it comes to other cases, so it’s only a matter of time”, they added.

“We will catch them.”

It comes after Greek authorities said her cause of death could be revealed in “days” as they fast-track crucial tests.

Tests on blood, urine and vital organ tissues will be key to determine if foul play was involved.

Elisabeth’s body was identified on Wednesday – the day her mobile phone was mysteriously deactivated by suspects believed ” to have intimate knowledge ” of her last movements.

The homeless man who made the grim discovery has insisted the suitcase was not in the building the two days prior.

His testimony has led police to believe her body was taken to the building at 7 Evelpidon Street on the evening of July 17 or the following morning.

Elisabeth arrived in the Greek capital on a flight from Edinburgh on June 26.

Police believe she was killed not far from where her body was found in the abandoned building in Kypseli.

A Greek couple who Elisabeth was staying with in Keratsini told cops she was going to stay with some Americans she knew in Kypseli.

Investigators are now hunting the mystery pals as authorities expand the probe abroad.

“We see these Americans as key,” said the source. “We believe they have valuable information.”

It comes after reports that the friends may not be real and that Elisabeth just wanted to be alone.

Meanwhile, cops are also reportedly searching for a heavily-tattooed homeless man who allegedly tried to rape a woman at knifepoint after Elisabeth’s body was found.

So far, cops have not been able to confirm the exact date of Elisabeth’s death or if it is considered murder.

Her heartbroken father revealed he had received haunting text messages from his daughter’s phone after her death.

The dad, a lawyer in Edinburgh, told Greek cops he was sent several messages for two weeks after Elisabeth’s passing from a man now being viewed as the prime suspect.

One message sent on the last day she was seen alive said she “needed some time to herself” and “wanted to be alone for a while”.

An officer told the Sun that the emergence of the messages has helped investigators track the location of phone.
