LOVE Island winner Alex Bowen has taken to Instagram to clap back after trolls wealth-shamed him and wife Olivia for “showing off” their dream Spanish home.

The couple, who found love on the ITV2 dating show back in 2016, first revealed their plans to build the property to The Sun.

The Love Island stars then showed off their stunning new Spanish holiday home in a video uploaded to social media this month.

Yet just three days after the upload, Alex, 34, told how the pair had been bombarded with messages which had left him annoyed.

In an Instagram video which saw him filming while standing against a white wall, he said: “So this is a bit of a weird one yeah but I feel like I’ve just got to make a video about it because it has annoyed me a little bit.

“Liv got sent some messages last night and this girl, this influencer, posted something saying ‘I feel like so many people are out of touch right now’ or something and ‘in their million pound houses and Spanish villas’.

“We got sent it a couple of times and I watched the video and I was like, I can’t afford a Ferrari or a Lamborghini but if I follow someone whose got one, should I make a video moaning about it?

“It don’t really make sense. You get to control what you see.

“So if you don’t like that person and certain things just unfollow it and block it and it won’t come up on your feed again.

“And control your feed a better way”.

Alex suggested people “should be happy” for those who are doing better than themselves and suggested they “do the best with what you can”.

He added: “It’s just a bit of a weird thing to say.

“Everyone is always doing better than someone, I never had anything before and now that I have, I’m proud of that and I will post about it.

“I had to put my two cents in, I think it’s a bit silly”.

His wife Olivia, 32, with whom he shares Abel Jacob (born June 2022) and a daughter named Siena Grace (born August 2025), then added her thoughts in a lengthy comment.

Uploading her words alongside his initial video she wrote: “I think it’s such a hard conversation but not everyone’s content is for everyone.

“I also think to be moaning about that and then also posting your own content where you have a car, you have a coffee machine, you have brands sending you free clothes you’re posting with links that I know gain sales with affiliate links meaning you get paid from your followers… like you can’t moan about influencer culture & content creation if you’re also doing it.

“Maybe it is for attention or maybe it’s genuine I don’t know, but I truly only want people to be happy & inspired by following me/us.

“I love interiors I love family I love travel. We worked for this, I don’t want to be made upset so I’ll also be utilising my block & unfollow button, I encourage anyone else to do the same to make you feel good & inspired”.

After the pair’s loyal followers reacted with messages of support, Liv added: “Everyone is so friggin kind, reminder to self – take most notice of the kind friendly people.

“It’s not even to get this kind of response I just wanted people to know it’s ok to unfollow or mute anything that isn’t making them feel inspired, happy etc. It’s your feed!

“I’m glad most of you enjoy it that makes me so happy to have you on this journey with us – ten years later”.

Alex and Olivia revealed in 2024 that they had purchased a plot of land in Spain so they could build their dream property.

The project unfolded alongside major life changes for the couple.

Since purchasing the plot of land, Olivia and welcomed their second child and continued to visit Spain to work on their dream home.

Speaking exclusively to us two years ago, Olivia said: “We’ve actually bought two more properties to renovate and let out, we’re trying to do a lot of property investment, that’s four on our books at the moment.

“I’m just trying to keep my head in interior and property, it’s so much fun but it’s hard.

“We’ve also just bought a plot in Spain to build a house, so we’re starting all over.

“We were always aiming of taking equity out, because the renovation on our old home was always a financial move, we were aiming to take equity out and do all these plans and now it’s coming to fruition.”
