Calling all Briar U converts! If, like everyone at HELLO!’s London office, you’ve been completely swept up in Prime Video’s hockey romance series Off Campus, then chances are Hannah, Allie, Garrett, Logan, Dean and Tucker are still living in your head rent-free.
Between reading the original novels by Elle Kennedy, scouring the internet for cast trivia, downloading the soundtrack and inevitably falling down a rabbit hole of fan edits, many viewers have already succumbed to a full rewatch.

And while the series delivers plenty of swoon-worthy moments on first viewing, eagle-eyed fans, particularly those familiar with the books, have also spotted a number of subtle details, hidden motivations and notable deviations from the source material.
Here, we’ve decoded six key Off Campus moments that left viewers talking…
1. Why was Hannah in the locker room?

While we’re definitely not complaining about THAT opening scene, which sees Hannah accidentally walking in on Garrett fresh from hockey practice, some viewers were left wondering why she was in the locker room at all.
Turns out, Hannah has multiple jobs – one at Malone’s, which is run by Della, and one at the hockey stadium. In episode one, Hannah finds out that her scholarship has been terminated due to budget cuts, and while her tutor, Daveed (Brandon Scott), assures her she can speak to financial aid, she laments: “They’re just gonna give me another work-study job. I can barely do all my study work as it is.”
This is another motivation for why Hannah accepts Garrett’s tutoring deal – as she needs the extra money to finance her tuition.
2. Garrett’s fancy dress costume explained

One of the best scenes (IMO) comes in episode two, when the whole Briar U gang go to Dean and Beaux’s 22nd fancy dress birthday party. The theme is “Iconic Duos” and while there are some standout looks (special shoutout to Allie’s killer JLo dress), some people were left asking: what exactly was Garrett supposed to be?
Draped in a black-and-red cape, many viewers assumed Garrett was dressed as a vampire. In reality, the costume only makes sense once Hannah arrives. Garrett is a magician, while Hannah appears as the rabbit pulled from the hat.
Other honourable mentions go to Dean’s Maverick costume, Jules’ Peter Pan shadow and Logan and Tucker’s take on the birds and the bees.
3. Logan’s crush on Hannah

Garrett isn’t the only hockey player yearning for Hannah, as his best friend, Logan, also has a soft spot for the music major. While some fans were left a bit confused as to why Logan seemed so fixated on his best friend’s girlfriend, readers of the books will know that Logan’s feelings run deeper than simple jealousy.
More than Hannah herself, Logan envies what Garrett has: stability, emotional security and a genuinely healthy relationship. It’s a layer of emotional complexity that the series only briefly touches upon so far, but one fans are hoping will be explored more in future instalments.
4. Hannah’s parents

Viewers are introduced to Hannah’s parents later in the season, particularly her warm-hearted mother, who quickly takes a liking to Garrett. But despite their close relationship, some fans questioned why they were unable to visit Hannah for Thanksgiving.
While the series doesn’t spell it out directly, the books offer additional context. Hannah’s parents are still financially recovering from the legal battle surrounding Aaron Delaney, after attempting to take him to trial following Hannah’s traumatic experience. Between mounting legal fees and everyday expenses, travelling from Ransom, Indiana, to Boston simply isn’t financially possible.
5. Tucker’s fruit challenge

One of the most comedic moments in the series is when Tucker (Jalen Thomas Brooks) pledges to Dean (Stephen Kalyn) and Beau Maxwell’s (Khobe Clarke) fraternity. In order to get in, Tucker is subjected to a hazing which requires him to do one simple job: look after a piece of fruit.
But every time he takes his eyes off it, the fruit gets bigger – and what begins with a grape is later supersized to a watermelon. Eager-eyed fans have also speculated that this is an easter egg for Tucker’s own book, The Goal (but no spoilers here!).
6. Why does Dean hate Hunter Davenport so much?

The series ends on a major cliffhanger, with the unexpected arrival of Hunter Davenport (Charlie Evans), who just so happens to be Allie’s “no strings attached” fling. While Hunter forms the hockey team’s new starting line, defenseman Dean is outraged at his arrival – something that might have something to do with Dean’s sister, Summer.
Hunter’s story is one of the major deviations from the book, and creator Louisa Levy explained to Variety: “We needed to throw a wrench into Dean and Allie’s arrangement to elongate their story. Pulling from that universe felt right, especially because he is a key player in Summer’s story when we eventually get there.”
Just how that dramatic dynamic unfolds remains to be seen – but needless to say, we’re already counting down to the next chapter.
