The Motherland spin-off, starring Lucy Punch and Joanna Lumley, returned to screens on Wednesday, with Amanda still living in SoHa, juggling life as a busy mum, managing her online brand and “co-labbing” with Kitchen’s Bathrooms and Kitchens.
The show, which is up for multiple BAFTA awards this weekend, welcomed Harriet Webb (Mr Bigstuff, Big Boys) as Abs, Mal’s (Samuel Anderson) ex-partner – and it seems the second instalment has proved just as hilarious as the first.

What are viewers saying about Amandaland season 2?

Lucy Punch stars as Amanda in the BCB drama
Meanwhile, a third wrote: “Binged the lot, absolutely brilliant!” while a fourth added: “Binged all of the new Amandaland today, very very happy.”
What are critics saying about Amandaland season 2?
The new instalment also went down a storm with critics, with The Telegraph writing in its five-star review: “This second series overflows with jokes about Amanda (Lucy Punch) trying and failing to become a luxury content creator. It remains the BBC’s best sitcom by a country mile.”
Meanwhile, The Guardian wrote: “Lucy Punch is brilliant as this comedy’s delusional, narcissistic lead and Joanna Lumley is magnetic as her mum. It’s not as delectably spiky as Motherland, but the comforting vibes are what make it worth watching.”
London Evening Standard added: “This is a show that manages hypocrisy and delusions with a sweet touch that makes it a warm, impeccably turned-out joy.”
What is Amandaland season 2 about?
While Amanda resigns herself to staying in SoHa, her mood lifts when she learns a new hipster coffee shop has opened nearby – a sure sign, in her mind, that gentrification is finally on the way.

Have you tuned into Amandaland yet?
The synopsis continues: “By mid-series, Amanda’s head has been turned by discovering a big house in the area is up for sale. Desperate to own it, she turns to her mother – only to discover that getting Felicity on board financially comes at a price. Her mum may seem evergreen, but is definitely starting to show signs of ageing so maybe living alone is no longer an option…”
What has the cast said about the new season?
Speaking to the BBC about the second instalment, Lucy Punch said: “There are some fantastically funny new characters, and more hilarious storylines with the ones we already know and love.”
Referencing her own character, Lucy added: “[Amanda’s] change in circumstances has made her realise, finally, that she’s no better than anyone else. In Motherland, her superiority was her ugliest trait. Nevertheless, her giant ego and status anxiety remains, so she still wants everyone to think she’s the best!”
