James Jordan as Two Cups in Lioness

Paramount+ has just dropped arguably its biggest update of 2026 so far. Taylor Sheridan’s fourth new release of the year is coming to the streaming service this summer, and it’s the first returning series with Sheridan’s involvement in the calendar.

After a run of three straight TV Westerns, Sheridan is back in the action thriller genre where he first made his name. Following almost two years away from our screens, Lioness is finally here again with a third season, featuring a bigger and better cast than ever.

This thriller series about a team of female counterterrorism operatives working for the CIA is the show that Taylor Sheridan’s fans have ultimately been waiting for. Lioness season 3 comes off the back of enormous ratings successes in 2023 and 2024. There’s every chance that this coming release will eclipse the spectacular viewing figures for Lioness season 2.

As of June 5, 2026, it’s now confirmed that the third season of Lioness will be arriving this year. The season will premiere on Paramount+ at the beginning of August, and will consist of 10 episodes, which is two more than the show’s first two seasons each featured.

Following the season premiere on Sunday, August 2, which is likely to mean a double episode release, a new episode will arrive on the streaming platform every week until the end of September. It’s telling that Lioness season 3 is set to be longer than its forerunners, as this season appears to be pulling out all the stops.

As with seasons 1 and 2, the show’s new episodes have been scripted directly by Taylor Sheridan, who also serves as showrunner. The creator behind the series clearly sees it as a top priority within his incredibly busy production schedule.

As exciting as the release of Sheridan’s new Western series has been in the first half of 2026, the reality is that fans have been waiting with baited breath for news about the release of Lioness season 3. An all-action espionage thriller featuring some of Hollywood’s biggest names, this series is the ultimate crowd pleaser.

Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman, and Michael Kelly are just three of the supporting actors who make up what’s surely Paramount+’s best ensemble cast, while box-office queen Zoe Saldaña and Locke & Key star Laysla De Oliveira lead from the front in the show’s two principal roles.

Lioness does adrenaline-fueled special intelligence operations perhaps better than any other show on television, as its scintillating season 2 finale demonstrates. It’s no wonder than several million viewers are waiting on tenterhooks for the next episode in the series to drop, and they won’t have to wait much longer.

What To Expect From Lioness Season 3

Alongside the show’s biggest returning stars, we can look forward to at least three new additions to the cast of Lioness in season 3. Yellowstone actor Ian Bohen, Lev Gorn from The Americans, and rising star Elizaveta Neretin are all joining the series, while season 2 newcomers Genesis Rodriguez and Michael are reprising their roles.

Nicole Kidman also teased a Lioness season 3 storyline earlier this year when she used the word “minefields” while speaking to ELLE about the show’s plot. It remains to be seen how literally Kidman meant to be with this description, but it’s safe to assume that Lioness season 3 could be something of a political minefield in a metaphorical sense.

The Iranian Armed Forces featured in the backend of season 2, while other Middle Eastern military groups serve as belligerents throughout the series. In light of present-day geopolitical events, Taylor Sheridan will have had to tread carefully when creating new antagonists for the upcoming episodes of Lioness.
