Ella Ballentine in The Vampire Lestat

It’s been two long years since horror lovers experienced Season 2 of what is undoubtedly one of the best shows on TV right now, and following the long-awaited premiere of Season 3 on June 7, the series has reclaimed its rightful place at the top of streaming. First released in 2022, it gained widespread critical acclaim, with Season 1 earning a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. Season 2 in 2024 garnered even more praise on its way to a perfect 100% rating. Thus far, Season 3 has experienced the same success, as it’s also achieved a perfect score.

Developed by Rolin Jones, the show follows Louis de Pointe du Lac, a vampire who recounts his centuries-long life story to journalist Daniel Molloy. As Louis revisits his past, he reveals his passionate and often destructive relationship with the charismatic vampire, Lestat de Lioncourt, their creation of the young vampire, Claudia, and the emotional fallout that spans decades. Based on the novels by Anne Rice, the horror hit updates some of the material, and definitely expands upon the previous film adaptations.

Vampires Reign Supreme on AMC+

For those still trying to guess, the horror smash is, of course, titled Interview with the Vampire. Named after the first book in Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles series, it stars Jacob Anderson as Louis, Sam Reid as Lestat, Eric Bogosian as Molloy, and Bailey Bass and Delainey Hayles as Claudia.

Hitting AMC on Oct. 2, 2022, the first two seasons of Interview with the Vampire cover the events in Rice’s debut novel, which was published in 1976. Season 3, dubbed Anne Rice’s The Vampire Lestat, runs as a single seven-episode installment that follows Lestat as he becomes a hedonistic rock star, and offers an exclusive documentary-style interview about his genesis and life story.

Now two episodes deep into the third season, The Vampire Lestat has achieved phenomenal success since its debut. It currently sits atop all of AMC+, beating the likes of The Terror: Devil in Silver and the George R.R. Martin-produced series, Dark Winds. With five episodes still to go, we expect it to remain near the top of the heap as time goes on, which signifies just how rabid the show’s fanbase is.

Though Season 3 is still in its infancy, Season 4 of Interview with the Vampire is almost a guarantee at this point. While AMC has yet to officially green-light another season of the hit adaptation, Jones has a multi-year contract with the network that includes a fourth season, which will most likely take its cues from books like Queen of the Damned and The Tale of the Body Thief.

Another indicator that Season 4 of Interview with the Vampire is almost a certainty is how heavily invested AMC is in their shared universe of Rice adaptations. Though Talamasca: The Secret Order failed to live up to expectations and was canceled after one season, Mayfair Witches is still going strong and was renewed for a third season last year. Also in development are Night Island and Memnoch the Devil, which, in theory, could serve as a future season of Interview with the Vampire.

As we await to see what the future holds, be sure to check out The Vampire Lestat streaming now on AMC+, and look for new episodes to air every Sunday until its conclusion on July 19.
