‘Spectacular’ Netflix thriller makes fans ‘never want to leave their house’(Image: NurPhoto via Getty Images)
Your Friday night has just been sorted as a new Netflix thriller arrives.
Netflix’s new pulse-racing thriller with Taron Egerton and Charlize Theron is a must-watch for movie buffs this weekend.
Directed by Baltasar Kormákur (Beast, Everest), this exhilarating cat-and-mouse game pits the two Hollywood icons against each other in the Australian wilderness.
Apex follows Theron as intrepid rock climber Sasha, whose challenging trek across the Outback is thrown off course by an encounter with unhinged hunter Ben (played by Taron Egerton).
What follows is a gripping, 90-minute thrill ride through perilous climbs, deadly rapids, and unforgiving terrain, all while being pursued by one of Netflix’s most sadistic villains in recent memory.

Multiple critics have called Apex “spectacular”, including the Wall Street Journal who praised Theron “giving the most athletically demanding performance of her action-movie career”.
Variety also praised the “short, taut, [and] spectacularly shot thriller” and claimed it should have been given a cinematic release.
“It’s clear that this film’s natural habitat is the cinema,” they continued. “A full Friday-night multiplex house, preferably, where viewers can shriek in unison with each obvious but effective jolt.
“This is, at heart, a proudly pleasurable B-movie lavished with the benefits of A-movie craftsmanship.”

Empire also had high praise for the film, giving Apex four stars and describing it as “a really handsomely made bit of schlock”.
Highlighting Egerton’s stunning performance, they said: “Egerton is a canny bit of casting in a rare villain role, the Welsh actor morphing his natural charisma and sinewy frame — so winning in the likes of Kingsman or Rocketman — into something sinister and terrifying.”
Plus, Theron is “completely commanding” as Sasha, with the review likening her latest leading role to her brilliant performance in Mad Max: Fury Road.
And their final verdict reads: “Just a solidly made cat-and-mouse thriller, with muscularly committed performances from its two leads. It’ll make you want to explore the Great Outdoors and simultaneously never leave your house again.”
While IGN agreed: “Theron crafts a relatable and grounded performance bolstered with emotional sensitivity and physical prowess, while Taron Egerton proves his worth as a weirdly menacing antagonist.”
Feeling ready to conquer the wilderness? Netflix’s jaw-dropping new thriller is not for the faint-hearted but shouldn’t be missed by those feeling brave.
