Horrific Shark Attack Mauls Swimmer at Florida Naval Base (Video)

A shark attack along Florida’s Panhandle has left a Navy base employee in critical condition—and the terrifying incident was captured on video.

The attack occurred Monday morning at the Naval Support Activity (NSA) Panama City marina, a waterfront area used by military personnel and civilian employees for recreation. According to base officials, the victim was swimming near the marina during his lunch break when the attack happened shortly before noon.

Emergency responders from NSA Panama City Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the scene before transporting the victim to HCA Gulf Coast Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Officials said the man suffered severe injuries to both arms and remains in critical condition.

The victim has been identified only as a male civilian employee in his late twenties. Base officials said he had worked at the facility for approximately four years. A colleague who was swimming nearby was not injured.

Video from the incident has circulated widely online, showing the chaotic aftermath as bystanders and first responders rushed to help. The footage is brief but disturbing, underscoring just how quickly a routine swim can turn into a life-threatening emergency.

“Our prayers and thoughts go out to the family, and we want to send our appreciation to the first responders who rendered initial aid,” said NSA Panama City Commanding Officer Tristan Oliveria. “We continue to have the safety of all our personnel paramount in all the operations we do on base.”

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and NOAA are investigating the attack. Authorities have not yet identified the shark species involved.

The waters off the Florida Panhandle are home to numerous shark species, particularly during the warmer months. NOAA researchers note that the region serves as important habitat for several migratory species that move through the Gulf throughout the year.

For now, the focus remains on the victim’s recovery as the Florida surf and beach community awaits further updates on one of the year’s most shocking shark encounters.
