HOR-ROR in Cairns: Police Respond to Armed Man Before Innocent Civilian Is Sh-o-t in Chaotic Gunfire
A woman is in hospital after being shot by a stray bullet fired by police in North Queensland.
The woman was standing out the front of her Mount Sheridan home in Cairns, when she was struck on the leg as police opened fire on a man who was allegedly armed.

Police were initially called to Benjamina Street shortly after 5pm on Saturday after reports a man in his 20s was armed with knives during an attempted armed robbery.
The man, 28, fled on foot and was found at a roundabout connecting Hardy Road, Foster Road and Lizard Street.
Police tried to speak to the man, but shortly after they fired shots at him, hitting him in the elbow and buttocks.
It is not known what caused the officers to open fire.
During this time, a stray bullet fired by police hit a woman on the leg. She was not involved in the incident.
The suspect and the bystander were treated at the scene by emergency services before being taken to Cairns Base Hospital in a stable condition.

Queensland Police’s ethical standards command is investigating, and officers will address the media today.
The shooting is the second involving Queensland Police this weekend, with a first-year constable in hospital after being involved in a confrontation with a man on the Fraser Coast.
The man who fired shots at police was later found dead inside a shed.
