Authorities noted that initial recovery and identification efforts were delayed due to fast-moving river conditions, with search operations continuing over the following days. Three days later, the Coroner’s Office received a report that a body had been located downstream from the original incident site.

Working alongside the sheriff’s office, officials secured the remains and later positively identified the individual as Matthew J. Brown, 43, of Oroville, Washington. The identification was confirmed on scene by a family member present. The coroner also stated that a postmortem examination will be conducted in the coming days to determine an official cause of death.

He added that the body was being held by the coroner for an autopsy, with official findings still pending. “They’re going to do an autopsy and everything like that. They haven’t yet released the cause of death,” he told Us Weekly.

Noah also explained the recovery process, noting that the small search team that found the body initially placed it into a skiff and moved it closer to shore before additional volunteers helped secure the area for authorities. He said he personally identified his brother when the coroner arrived.

At the time of his comments, Noah said the family was still waiting for updates from the coroner, expected within days, and trying to process the loss. “Right now, it’s still in the process of just trying to come to terms with the fact that he’s actually gone,” he said.
