Fans and critics have had their say on new season of Netflix series that viewers binge watch in one day.
All episodes of The Four Seasons Season 2 are now available from today (May 28). The series, created by Tina Fey, follows a group of couple friends who regularly get together for trips over the year.
Each of these trips take up a couple episodes each, as the title notes, throughout the different seasons. It is actually inspired by the 1981 comedy film of the same name, which was directed and starred Alan Alda. The MASH actor also makes a cameo in the Netflix version.
The leading boasts some huge names and faces in the world of comedy. This includes the show creator Fey, who is joined by fellow Saturday Night Live alum Will Forte, Colman Domingo from Fear The Walking Dead, The Running Man and Euphoria. Plus Superstore’s Kerri Kenney-Silver, Hazbin Hotel’s Erika Henningsen and Italian actor Marco Calvani.
In its second season, coming off a hard year, the group of friends carries on their tradition of vacationing together, now with a baby in tow. The Four Seasons picks back up with the core group, Kate (Tina Fey), Jack (Will Forte), Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver), Danny (Colman Domingo), Claude (Marco Calvani), and Ginny (Erika Henningsen) as they journey from the familiar comforts of the Jersey shore and upstate New York to the stunning landscapes of Italy.

With warmth and wit, personal blind spots surface for the group as they each grieve their late friend and embark on new adventures. According to its synopsis the eight-part comedy remains a heartfelt and hilarious tribute to long-term relationships, while continuing to explore the highs, lows, and humour of enduring friendships and love.
But what do critics and fans make of it so far? Well, as it has only been available for less than 24 hours at the time of writing, reviews published online are limited.
However, one critic has claimed that the show is much improved, down to it missing one of its stars. Steve Carrell played Nick in Season 1 but due to circumstances we won’t spoil here, is not present at the beginning of Season 2.
This is apparently a good thing or so they claim: “The Four Seasons is better off without Steve Carrell and a second season without him feels fresher, faster, brighter and more complex than the first. But out of Nick’s shadow, the cast gets to let their freak flags fly, so to speak, and the arguments feel a little less bitter and fatigued.”
Many others were actually concerned that the series did not have the strength to continue without its full ensemble from Season 1. However, another reviewer admits: “The Four Seasons season 2 is refreshing in unexpected ways, reinventing itself after a major loss.”
While another added: “This is a dark and difficult world in which good men smash up vintage snack shacks, regrets must be lived with, sacrifices made, childhood traumas kept buried, and people who love each other want completely different things.”
There are also some dedicated fans who have already managed to make their way through the majority of the new episodes if not all of them, as they could not contain their excitement.

A fan advised others to follow suit and clear their plans. They posted: “The Four Seasons is back and I’m not ready. Season finale left us hanging on everything. 12 hours and we get answers. Fair warning: you’re gonna lose sleep. This show doesn’t do mercy. Grab snacks, clear your schedule.”
Another added: “So good watched in one day I went from laughing, cringing to crying and laughing again all in a matter of minutes.”
Meanwhile a viewer explained: “I simply loved this series so much. It’s such a delightful, light comedy, but also emotional and thought-provoking, with great dialogue. You might start out having favourite characters, but by the end you end up connecting with all of them. I absolutely loved it. It has so much potential to become that comfort show you rewatch every year.”
