As Prince Harry continues his U.K. visit, new reporting suggests he and Charles are working behind the scenes to arrange a reunion with Archie and Lilibet.

Prince Harry and King Charles are working to make a long-awaited reunion between the British monarch and his California-based grandchildren possible.
The Duke of Sussex, 41, is in the U.K. this week for a series of engagements after vacationing in Europe with Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had hoped to bring Archie and Lilibet back to Britain for the first time since 2022, security concerns led Harry to travel to London alone. At the time, it remained possible that Meghan and the children could join him later in the trip outside the capital.
However, there may still be hope for a rare reunion between King Charles, 77, and his grandchildren. The Mirror reported on Wednesday, July 8, that King Charles has instructed senior aides to engage in ongoing talks with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in an effort to find time in his schedule to see his grandchildren.
The outlet also reported that Prince Harry and King Charles have had several one-on-one conversations in recent weeks, with one source describing the tone as “hopeful.”

A royal source told The Mirror, “While nothing has been ruled out, conversations remain ongoing.” Another insider said, “The King would not pass up the opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren, and if there is a way of making it possible, he will do it.”
Harry is “frantically” working to get private security in order for Meghan and the children to come to the U.K., the outlet added.
A spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex had no comment when reached by PEOPLE. PEOPLE also reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment.
While Prince Archie, 7, was born in the U.K., Princess Lilibet, 5, was born in California. King Charles has met his granddaughter only once, during the family’s 2022 visit to Britain.
Although King Charles offered the family accommodations on a royal estate, the security arrangements would not extend beyond the property. In a statement shared with PEOPLE on June 29, a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex said, “The issue is whether appropriate and proportionate protective security is being provided throughout the entirety of the visit.”
At the time, the spokesperson said Prince Harry was continuing to “explore every available option to enable the visit to proceed safely and to give his children the opportunity to enjoy the U.K.”
On June 27, The Telegraph reported that the Duke of Sussex was considering flying his wife and children into Britain for one day to see King Charles as a workaround to making a reunion happen without official security.
Although Prince Harry’s wife and kids haven’t been back to the U.K. since 2022, he’s returned to his home country solo on a number of occasions since stepping back from his royal role in 2020. He has seen his father on a handful of occasions, most recently in September 2025, when Harry went to the King’s London residence, Clarence House, and the pair spent a little under an hour together.
Prince Harry has made no secret of his desire for a reconciliation with his family, telling the BBC in May 2025, “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”
Harry recognized one of the issues between them: the writing of his memoir, among other media interviews the couple has done, in which they raised issues with the royal family.
“Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book. Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things,” Harry said.
