The cheerleader’s d3ath was ruled a su!cide… but the musical her boyfriend wrote afterward revealed disturbing details that had long gone unnoticed
A coroner’s court has heard disturbing claims of coercive control in a young cheerleader’s relationship with a man who wrote a musical appearing to relate to his arrest for her alleged murder.

At a pre-inquest hearing in Brisbane Coroner’s Court on Tuesday, the events leading up to 21-year-old former Gold Coast Titans cheerleader Breeana Robinson’s death were assessed.
Counsel assisting Kim Bryson told the court Ms Robinson had died on January 29, 2013 from a fall of considerable height off her apartment balcony at the H2O Apartments on the Gold Coast.

The last person to see Ms Robinson alive was her then partner David Shearin, now known as Jayden Moorea.
Ms Robinson’s death was initially ruled a suicide but, in 2017, police reopened investigations.
An inquest into Ms Robinson’s death was prompted in August of the same year although delayed more than a decade while criminal proceedings were pursued.
Accused of her alleged murder, Mr Moorea was committed to stand trial in 2021.
While it was committed, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution found there was not enough evidence to continue to trial and the charges were dropped in 2023.
Mr Moorea is not criminally charged in relation to her death.

On Tuesday, Ms Bryson submitted the pair had been living together for about five weeks before Ms Robinson’s death.
The counsel assisting suggested the pair started dating after meeting on social media in 2012; however split shortly after as Ms Robinson became aware Mr Moorea had lied about multiple details, including his age.

Ms Bryson claimed Mr Moorea then sent a series of “persistent” and, at times, “abusive” messages to her and her family, causing police to become involved on one occasion.
Near the end of 2012, Ms Bryson alleged they reconnected and Ms Robinson ultimately moved with Mr Moorea.
On the night of her death, Ms Robinson participated in a dance class with her cousin and Titans cheerleader teammates.
Ms Bryson said her teammates told police she “seemed like her normal self” and was “happy, excited about her upcoming trip to Bali and dance training the following day”.
The counsel assisting submitted Mr Moorea gave statements to police that Ms Robinson “seemed down” because “she wanted their relationship to be better”.

Ms Bryson said investigators found evidence of a toxic relationship on their mobile phones.
“What was seen was an excessive number of both abusive and derogatory text messages sent by Mr Moorea to Ms Robinson,” she claimed to the court.
“Those messages seemed to demonstrate that their relationship featured significant abuse emotional abuse, coercive control, stalking and surveillance type behaviours, including intimidation and isolation.”
The coroner’s court was told Mr Moorea allegedly told police he specifically remembered closing the balcony door on the night as Ms Robinson had previously told him “she may as well jump off the balcony”.
The court was told he claimed to police he saw her on the balcony “up and over the railing in mid-flight” and “already in the air”,
“It was like she launched herself off the balcony,” Mr Moorea allegedly told officers, noting a nearby chair – later found by police next to the railing.
The coroner’s court was told Mr Moorea phoned a friend for support on the night who also happened to be a lawyer.

“In the days following Breeana’s death, there is evidence to suggest that Mr Moorea attempted to access her Heritage Bank account and superannuation,” Ms Bryson told the court.
“It is necessary to analyse (all of) this evidence in order to establish whether there is any probative evidence in relation to whether Mr Moorea exhibited a pattern of behaviour which may be relevant to the circumstances of Breeana’s death.”
A potential 44 witnesses will be called in the course of the inquest proceedings.
The inquest is expected to run for two weeks from October 19, 2026.

Following her death, Mr Moorea – who self-describes as an “author, filmmaker, and former international cruise ship headliner” – penned a musical screenplay, For Eternity, that appeared to touch on aspects of Ms Robinson’s death.
The plot, outlined on Mr Moorea’s website, describes a Broadway star struggling with his relationship with his mother after being blamed for the death of his young cheerleader girlfriend, who fell from his high-rise apartment balcony.
The website lists a number of A-list celebrities as casting options including figures like Zac Efron, Nick Jonas and Austin Butler for the male protagonist.
A series of AI generated music videos are also featured on the website.
