The 68-year-old man is in critical condition after trying to stop his own car from being stolen

A man has suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by his own vehicle while trying to stop it being stolen in Melbourne’s north-east.

Police say they were called to Blackwood Parade in Heidelberg West around 7.30pm on Saturday after reports a man had been struck by a car.

A man had been attempting to stop his car being stolen by an unknown offender when he was struck by the vehicles, witnesses told officers.

 

The car and offend fled the scene and remain on the run.

The 68-year-old victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“A crime scene has been established and the investigation is ongoing,” police said in a statement.

“Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are processing the scene.”
