Brooke Stephens was just 29 years old. She had two young children and a whole life ahead of her.
She loved playing and coaching basketball — a sport that took up a big space in her heart and life.
But it was Brooke’s two children who claimed the biggest place in her heart.
Her family have described her as a “devoted mother whose children were her whole world”.
Now, her children will have to grow up without her.

At about 6:30pm on Sunday, emergency services arrived at a home on Generation Drive in Clyde North, Melbourne, where they found Brooke had been critically injured, per ABC.
Police said she suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where she later died.
Officers arrested a 32-year-old man at the home and charged him with murder.
He’s since been identified as Brooke’s partner, Jorden Turney, according to ABC.
Two children were home at the time of the alleged murder, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
In a statement to media on Monday, Brooke’s family remembered the 29-year-old as a “caring and loving” person.
“She was a devoted mother whose children were her whole world, a much-loved daughter and sister, and an incredible auntie who adored her family deeply,” the statement read, per Nine News.
“Brooke had a huge passion for basketball and especially loved coaching. She gave so much of her time and heart to the sport and to the people she coached, encouraging and supporting those around her.
“She was kind, caring and deeply loved by so many people.
“Brooke had her whole life ahead of her and deserved the chance to watch her children grow and experience all the beautiful moments still to come.”
Turney made a brief appearance at Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on Monday, per ABC.
The court was told he had been diagnosed with a psychiatric illness and was at risk of self-harm.
He will undergo examination by a custody nurse. Turney did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.
He is due for a committal hearing in November, per ABC.
Homicide detectives were seen returning to the scene on Monday, where they were seen speaking with neighbours, the publication reported.
Her name is Brooke Stephens.
She is the 29th woman killed by violence in Australia this year, according to Counting Dead Women Australia.
