A Car Plunged Straight Into a Bus in the Middle of the Road… But the Person Police Fined Was Someone Else
An unexpected third party has been fined over a jaw-dropping crash that left a hatchback wedged inside a bus in Brisbane’s south.
CCTV video from 6.30pm on Wednesday shows a blue Toyota Yaris mounting a median strip at a busy Rocklea intersection and piercing the Brisbane City Council bus at speed, becoming wedged inside.

“Looks like the guy had the pilot licence and he had rushed to Archerfield Airport,” witness Matt Hossein told 9News.

A photo from inside shows the car’s front wheels suspended in mid-air as it stretches across the aisle but, fortunately, there were no passengers on board because the bus was heading back to the depot.
The bus driver, a 66-year-old Sunnybank Hills man, was uninjured and the Yaris driver, who was the only person in the car, was taken to hospital and treated for shock.
“We’re just enormously grateful that the bus was going back to depot and didn’t have any passengers in it,” councillor Tracy Davis.
On Thursday evening, police revealed a driver had been fined over the crash but it wasn’t the Yaris driver, a 45-year-old Pallara woman.
Instead, they allege a black SsangYong attempted to merge from a centre lane and turn off near the intersection of Beaudesert Road and Granard Road before the Yaris in the outer lane swerved and lost control.

The SsangYong driver, a 66-year-old Durack man, was fined $690 and three demerit points for driving without due care and attention.
The circumstances of the crash were under investigation.
