“Lindsay, what did you do?” he repeatedly asked, before pleading: “Lindsay, look at me, look at me.”
The horrifying exchange unfolded outside the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home on January 24, 2023.
Patrick then asked, “Where are the kids?” before Lindsay quietly replied that they were “in the basement.”
He raced back inside and made the discovery that left him screaming and sobbing during a harrowing 911 call.

Jurors heard the roughly seven-minute recording at Lindsay’s murder trial on Wednesday as Patrick recounted returning from an errand to an eerily silent house.
He had left shortly beforehand to collect medicine for their daughter Cora and pick up takeout for the family.
Patrick testified that Lindsay sounded quiet during a brief phone call while he was out, but he assumed she was busy bathing the children.
When he returned, he called out but received no answer before searching the children’s bedrooms and bathrooms.
He then found the main bedroom locked.
“That’s when I knew something was wrong,” Patrick told the court.
After getting inside, he saw the window open and what he described as blood “everywhere” in the room.
Patrick rushed downstairs and into the yard, where he found Lindsay injured with cuts across her wrists and neck.

“My wife tried to commit suicide,” he told the 911 dispatcher.
“Stay awake,” he urged Lindsay, before explaining: “She jumped out of the window. She’s breathing.”
Patrick repeatedly tried to keep her focused, telling her: “Look at me. Say my name.”
He also asked whether there was something around her neck while describing her wounds to the emergency operator.
“It’s not really bleeding, it’s just an open wound,” he said.
When first responders arrived, Patrick told them: “I need you to stay with her, I have to go check on my kids.”
His footsteps could then be heard on the call as he ran through the home before suddenly screaming: “Oh no.”
“I need help in the basement right now,” he yelled.
“She killed the kids,” Patrick cried. “Oh my God.”
Patrick testified that he first found five-year-old Cora face down with a black exercise band around her neck.
“She had a band around her neck,” he said. “She was face down.”
“I immediately ran over and tried to take the band off,” he added, telling jurors she was unresponsive.

The former labor and delivery nurse does not deny killing them, but has pleaded not guilty and claims she was not criminally responsible because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.
Prosecutors argue Clancy deliberately sent her then-husband Patrick out to collect medicine and dinner so she could be left alone with the children.
The trial began with Patrick on the witness stand, describing Clancy’s declining mental health before recounting how he returned home, found her injured outside and discovered the children in the basement. Jurors have since heard his harrowing 911 call, seen the bands that were removed from the children’s necks and viewed their pajamas and other evidence from the home.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial is expected to last between six and eight weeks, meaning testimony could continue well into September.
Proceedings are scheduled to begin at around 9am ET on sitting days and normally continue through the afternoon, with morning, lunch and afternoon breaks.
Prosecutors will present their case first, calling first responders, police officers, investigators, medical professionals and other witnesses connected to the killings.
The state listed more than 180 potential witnesses, although prosecutors are not expected to call everyone named.
Jurors are also expected to visit the Clancy family’s former Duxbury home with the judge and lawyers to see the scene for themselves.
Once prosecutors rest, Clancy’s defense will begin calling its own witnesses, including people who knew her and experts expected to testify about her medication, mental health and alleged postpartum psychosis.
The defense listed more than 60 possible witnesses, but some overlap with the prosecution’s list and may not be called twice.
After both sides finish presenting evidence, lawyers will deliver closing arguments before the judge instructs jurors on the law.
The jury will then decide whether Clancy is guilty of murder or was not criminally responsible because of her mental state when she killed her children.
He then spotted eight-month-old Callan beside her with a blue exercise band around his neck.

“I knew he was gone,” he said.
The devastated father said he moved between the children and attempted CPR until emergency crews took over.
Prosecutors displayed the three bands in court alongside the clothes and pajamas worn by Cora, Dawson and Callan on the night they died.
Lindsay dropped her head into her hands and sobbed as the 911 call played, while her attorney Kevin Reddington held her hand.
Her parents and several jurors also appeared emotional, and the court briefly broke for recess.
Patrick had already left the courtroom after completing his testimony and was not present when the recording was played.
Lindsay, a former labor and delivery nurse, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder over the deaths of her children.
She does not dispute killing them but has pleaded not guilty, with her lawyers arguing she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and was not criminally responsible.
Prosecutors claim Lindsay deliberately sent Patrick to collect medicine and dinner so she would have time alone to carry out the killings.
Her defense says she was severely mentally ill, sleep-deprived and taking a string of psychiatric medications before the tragedy.
Patrick testified that Lindsay told him during a hospital call about a week later that she had heard a man’s voice.
“She said she heard a man’s voice telling her that if she didn’t do it now, she would lose her chance. Or something like that,” he said.
Patrick said Lindsay had never previously told him she was hearing voices and added: “I didn’t know what psychosis was until after this happened.”
