A Perth community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of a five-year-old boy after a devastating crash in the city’s eastern suburbs left a woman fighting for her life.
Emergency crews rushed to Belgravia Street in Cloverdale shortly after 4:25 p.m. on Tuesday following reports that two pedestrians had been struck by a four-wheel drive near a local park.
Child Dies After Being Taken to Hospital
Western Australia Police allege a Toyota LandCruiser struck the young boy and a 48-year-old woman who was known to him while they were crossing the road.
Paramedics treated both victims at the scene before the child was rushed to Perth Children’s Hospital.
Despite emergency medical efforts, the five-year-old later d!ed from his injuries.
The woman remains in critical condition at Royal Perth Hospital.
Witness Describes Desperate Rescue Effort
Local resident Kaye Class told ABC News she witnessed emergency crews working tirelessly to save the young boy.
“A friend told us he had tried to run across the road and his mother had tried to save him,” she said.
She described watching paramedics perform CPR for an extended period.
“I stood there for half an hour to 45 minutes and they were just resuscitating, resuscitating.”
Driver Remained at the Scene
Police said the driver of the Toyota LandCruiser stopped immediately after the collision and was not physically injured.
Authorities have not announced any charges as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue.
