A Terrifying Legacy Reawakened
The story centers on Tom Kennedy (Adam Scott), a widowed crime writer seeking a fresh start for himself and his eight-year-old son, Jake (Acston Luca Porto), following the sudden death of his wife. They move to the quiet town of Featherbank, only to discover it is haunted by a gruesome history: twenty years ago, a serial killer known as “The Whisper Man” terrorized the community by whispering at children’s windows before abducting them.
The nightmare becomes personal when Jake begins hearing voices at his own window, eventually leading to his disappearance. Desperate to find his son, Tom is forced to bridge the gap with his estranged father, Pete Willis (Robert De Niro)—the retired detective who originally caught the Whisper Man decades earlier.

A Star-Studded Ensemble
The film brings together some of the most acclaimed talent in modern television and film:

Robert De Niro portrays Detective Pete Willis, a man burdened by the ghosts of his past who must confront the very evil he thought he had buried.
Adam Scott takes on the role of Tom Kennedy, marking a shift into a heavy dramatic and psychological territory following his acclaimed turn in Severance.
Michelle Monaghan joins the fray as Detective Amanda Beck, the lead investigator currently tasked with solving the new wave of disappearances in Featherbank.
Michael Keaton also stars in a significant role as Frank Carter, the original “Whisper Man” who continues to cast a long shadow from behind prison bars.

Behind the Scenes
New Zealand filmmaker James Ashcroft, known for the brutal and atmospheric Coming Home in the Dark, directs from a screenplay adapted by Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer. The project is a major collaboration between Netflix and the Russo Brothers’ AGBO, marking their sixth partnership following hits like Extraction and The Gray Man.
Principal photography for the film took place throughout the spring of 2025 in Plainfield, New Jersey, utilizing the state’s moody East Coast atmosphere to bring the fictional town of Featherbank to life.

When to Watch
Audiences won’t have to wait long to hear the whispers for themselves. “The Whisper Man” is scheduled to premiere globally on Netflix on August 28, 2026. With its blend of generational trauma, police procedural, and supernatural-tinged horror, the film is poised to be a standout entry in the crime thriller genre.
