Man fighting for life after being shot twice on Aspley street

A 24-year-old man is fighting for life after being shot twice in the open in North Brisbane while inspecting a motorbike in Aspley.

A man is fighting for life after he was shot twice in a roadside shooting in Brisbane’s north on Tuesday night.

Emergency services were called to Centre St at Aspley just before 11pm after the shooting.
A motorbike inspected by the man just before he was shot has been seized.
The 24-year-old Aspley man was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
There was blood on the front gate and front lawn of a home near where the man was shot.
Matt Gerrard and Hannah McCaley said they were asleep when a man was shot right outside their house.
“We woke up to the loudest bang ever. Then we heard someone screaming for help and screaming for their mum,” Mr Gerrard said.

“When we heard ‘I’ve been shot’, we just ran out of the house as quick as we could.
The couple said they were concerned the offender might still be in the street, but once they saw the bleeding victim, they ran to help.

“He just collapsed to the ground, and there was just so much blood all over his leg,” he said.
“My partner was on the phone to police while … I got the towel and started applying pressure to his leg.”
Ms McCaley said the sound of the gunshot was unmistakeable.
“I just knew it was a gun. The sound was unmistakeable. It was very scary. It felt like it just shook the whole room,” she said.
The couple helped the man until police arrived around six minute later.
“We were just trying to keep him talking as much as he could. He was fading in and out, so we got his name and age,” Mr Gerrard said.
“You never know what you would do in a situation like that. You can think about it 100 times until it happens, and then you run and help potentially save someone’s life.”
A crime scene has been declared.
