A former anchor of a local Fox news program has confessed to stabbing her 80-year-old mother to death with four kitchen knives and a cheese grater.
Angelynn Mock, 48, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on Friday afternoon in the grisly death of her mother, Anita Avers, in Wichita, Kansas.
Avers was found unresponsive in her bed, wearing just underwear and a bra, on October 31, 2025, after suffering multiple stab wounds to her face and torso, according to an affidavit reviewed by the Daily Mail.
Several kitchen knives and a cheese grater were found ‘laid out on a pillow’ next to her elderly mother in bed, and ‘all the utensils had blood on them,’ court documents read.
Mock, who anchored Missouri‘s St Louis local station Fox 2 about a decade ago, called 911 herself, telling a dispatcher that ‘her mother tried to kill her, so she stabbed her in return,’ the affidavit stated.
When officers arrived at Avers’ home, they found her daughter outside holding a towel to her bloody hands, officers with the Wichita Police Department reported.
Avers was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where she later died.
Meanwhile, Mock told police that before the stabbing, she entered her mother’s bedroom and found her ‘sharpening knives’ before Avers ‘came after her with a knife and fought her,’ per the affidavit.

Mock told officers she pushed her mother back as Avers told her: ‘I know you’re f***ing Jesus Christ,’ police recorded.
The former anchor then told officers she backed off, but her mother continued to follow her, so she grabbed a knife ‘and got on top of her,’ the affidavit detailed.
At the time, Mock said she stabbed her mother because she ‘started spewing venom at me out of her f***ing mouth,’ according to the documents.
Later on, she told police that she entered her mother’s bedroom that day to discuss an ‘upcoming job interview with KSN because she was a news anchor,’ police said.
KSN is an NBC television network affiliate. Mock previously worked for Fox 2 in St Louis from 2011 to 2015, and also held positions at KOKH Fox 25 in Oklahoma City.
She was employed as a sales employee at a data management software company at the time of her arrest, according to Newsweek, citing her now-deleted LinkedIn profile.
After telling her mother about the job prospect, Mock said Avers, who was ‘sharpening knives with bigger knives,’ said she was jealous and did not want her to get the job, the affidavit stated.
Officers also spoke with Barry Avers, Anita’s husband, who was at work at the time of her murder.

He told police that Mock was his stepdaughter, and that she previously worked for the St Louis station ‘before being laid off after an explosive situation involving alcohol,’ authorities said.
Barry said that Mock moved in with him and his wife about four to five years ago, and that his late wife had tried to get her daughter to seek mental health treatment because she was previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder, according to the affidavit.
He told police that the bipolar diagnosis was later changed to schizoaffective disorder, a condition that exhibits mood disorder and schizophrenia symptoms, per the documents.
To his knowledge, Barry said that his stepdaughter was on medication after experiencing ’bouts of delusions mixed with periods of depression,’ police said.
Approximately a month before killing her mother, Mock grew angry during a family card game, Barry recalled.
She began complaining that everyone hated her and she hated them too, and told her relatives: ‘They’re all robots’ and ‘They’re not real people,’ the documents read.
Barry also told authorities that he knew that Mock would often ‘claim to be spiritual and talk to God’ and also said she was ‘Anti-Christ,’ the affidavit stated.
Her outbursts, according to Barry, would often take place while Mock was on her stationary exercise bicycle, police detailed.

After the fatal stabbing, Mock was also taken to the hospital before being transported to the Wichita Police Department Investigation Section.
While she was in the interview room at the facility, Mock spoke to herself several times, stating that she believed her mother was the devil, the affidavit said.
In that room, she said: ‘I’d kill that b**** to have my mom back any day. I don’t even know who she is anymore. I know, believe she’s the devil,’ the legal documents read.
Before pleading guilty, Mock was ordered to undergo a competency evaluation to see if she was fit to stand trial. In July, a judge ruled she was competent to stand trial.
She has since waived her right to a trial and will be sentenced on October 5.
A first-degree murder charge carries a possible life sentence with parole eligibility after 25 years.
