HE JUST VANISHED INTO THIN AIR..! – The devastated family of missing Gold Coast magician Daniel Hidden is pleading for answers as the search expands into remote bushland and fears for his safety continue to grow.
The experienced hiker vanished from a place so important to him he tattooed its coordinates on his fingers.
The family of missing magician Daniel Hidden have made an emotional plea for help as the search for the experienced hiker enters a critical stage in the rugged Gold Coast hinterland.
The 26-year-old was reported missing after he was last seen leaving a Broadbeach address about 3am on June 14.
The family’s concern escalated after police discovered his silver Hyundai Santa Fe and Galaxy caravan, phone and personal belongings at a popular hiking area near Gorge Falls and Cougal Cascades two days later, but found no sign of him.
Hidden’s brother, Ilya Jamshidi, said the family initially believed the he had simply embarked on another solo adventure.
“He does do getaways, camping frequently, but never no contact,” he said.
“He hasn’t taken his phone with him, which is a bit unusual.
“A week without contact or shelter, that’s pretty unusual to us.
“The last time I saw him was Saturday, when we got to the gym together.”
The area where Hidden disappeared was one of his favourite places.
Jamshidi said the area held special significance for his brother, who had visited countless times.
“He’s taken me to this place as well. This is one of his favourites,” he said.
“He’s got the coordinates of a spot in this place tattooed on his fingers.
“So it means a lot to him.”
Jamshidi said his brother was an experienced adventurer who deliberately sought out difficult terrain away from established walking tracks.
“He doesn’t like sticking to marked tracks,” he said.
“He desires the hardship in unexplored places.
Asked where volunteers should focus their attention, Jamshidi urged people to think beyond obvious routes.
“If it seems dangerous or exciting, that’s most likely where he would be.”
Hidden’s family said they have been devastated by his disappearance, with his parents unable to sleep as the days pass without answers.
“Lots of crying,” Jamshidi said.
“My personal life is put aside.”
The search has continued to expand, with police, SES crews and volunteers combing steep and densely vegetated terrain around Cougal Cascades and Gorge Falls.
Australian Defence Force personnel are expected to join the effort on Tuesday as authorities push deeper into the vast search zone.
Police said the area is extensive, encompassing more than 20 walking tracks stretching from the Gold Coast into northern NSW.
“It is an area where there is an availability of water so our hopes are we can find Mr Hidden,” Acting Inspector Brett Jackson said.
In a heartfelt message, Hidden’s mother Faranak said she remained convinced her son was still alive.
“He is my son and he is very strong,” she said.
“You don’t know how he is capable of doing anything.
“I believe in him, but now it’s more than eight days passed. We need to find him, he needs help.
“But he’s alive and people can come and help to find him before something happens.”
The family is urging hikers, campers and day-trippers visiting the Gold Coast hinterland to keep watch for any sign of Hidden, particularly in remote areas away from established tracks.
