Prince Harry’s Reunion With King Charles Changes One Royal Relationship — But Not With Prince William
4
Prince Harry’s recent reunion with King Charles may have offered fresh hope for one royal relationship, but new reports suggest the long-running rift between Harry and Prince William remains as deep as ever.
According to PEOPLE, multiple sources say there has been no meaningful progress between the brothers despite Harry’s visit to Britain and his private meeting with the King.
No Contact Between the Brothers
A source familiar with both princes told PEOPLE there has been no communication between William and Harry.
“I thought it would have perhaps eased a little bit by now, to be honest. But there has been no movement, especially on William’s side. There is no contact.”
Another insider described the relationship simply as:
“It’s so broken.”
Neither Kensington Palace nor representatives for the Duke of Sussex have commented on the claims.
Paths Crossed — But No Meeting
Although William and Harry were carrying out engagements just miles apart during Harry’s visit to Britain, there was reportedly never any expectation the brothers would meet.
While Harry attended charity events connected to the Invictus Games, William continued his own royal duties before later appearing alongside Princess Catherine, Prince George and Princess Charlotte at Wimbledon.
The same day Harry reunited privately with King Charles at Highgrove House, William was participating in his annual charity polo match in Windsor.
The Rift Extends to the Next Generation
According to the report, the separation now stretches beyond the two brothers themselves.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis reportedly have no relationship with their California-based cousins, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Royal author Simon Vigar suggested Princess Diana would have been deeply saddened by how events have unfolded.
“Diana would be devastated that it has turned out like this.”
Harry’s Relationship With the King Appears to Be Improving
While William’s relationship with Harry reportedly remains unchanged, sources quoted by PEOPLE say Harry’s relationship with King Charles has shown signs of improvement.
Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet met privately with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House during Harry’s recent UK visit.
One source close to the family told the magazine:
“The relationship is better.”
Buckingham Palace confirmed the meeting took place but released no photographs or details, describing it as a private family occasion.
Reconciliation Still Appears Distant
Harry has repeatedly spoken publicly about wanting to repair family relationships.
In a 2025 BBC interview, he said:
“I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”
Despite that wish, royal commentators quoted by PEOPLE believe reconciliation between the brothers remains a much more difficult challenge.
Historian Robert Lacey suggested lasting progress is unlikely without significant movement from both sides, while historian Amanda Foreman noted that everyone involved wants reconciliation “on their own terms”—a reality she believes continues to stand in the way.
