Buckingham Palace issued the statement on behalf of Their Majesties, saying the King and Queen were “deeply saddened” by the passing of Sheikh Hamad.

The King’s message was released shortly after Buckingham Palace confirmed a private meeting between the monarch and the Sussex family at Highgrove House.
