Latest update on the condition of the 46-year-old man who was seriously injured after a masked gang broke into his home in Brisbane’s bayside area
A father-of-three is undergoing emergency surgery to save his arm, after a home invasion on Brisbane’s bayside where a masked gang repeatedly plunged a knife into the 46-year-old.
Corey Conaty, 46, was asleep in his Victoria Point home when four armed intruders forced their way inside early on Tuesday morning.
“Bang, bang, bang. Going in the front door was unbelievable. It was just like an explosion,” neighbour Fred Sutton said.
With no warning and nowhere to go, Conaty was forced to fight back against his attackers.
“But you could just hear them yelling and carrying on,” Sutton said.
Stabbed again and again, he suffered a deep cut to his arm with his thumb almost severed.

But the attackers weren’t done there, stomping on his car and slashing through the rear windscreen as they made a run for it.
“They were laughing their heads off. They thought it was a big joke,” Sutton said.
He was rushed to hospital in a critical but stable condition, with his family now by his side as surgeons battle to save his life and limb.
Police say they’re treating this attack as targeted. 7NEWS understands it’s not the first time officers have been called to this home.
Neighbours, including 83-year-old Sutton, say there are often problems on the street.

“It’s been off and on over the years, you know. You’re by yourself and you see this sort of thing going on. You get worried, you know,” Sutton said.
Conaty’s family says he’s a “great fella and lots of fun”.
Exactly why he was singled out is still a mystery with those responsible on the run.
