A short time later, they found the 12-year-old girl with serious injuries in Cannington.
Detective Acting Inspector Jessica Securo said members of the public intervened to assist the girl.
“We’re very thankful that members of the public stopped and assisted the female,” she said.
Police believe the pair suffered injuries at the Bentley home, but that the girl was able to get away and call police.
Securo said both had injuries consistent with stab wounds.
She was treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to Perth Children’s Hospital, where she is suffering from serious injuries and continues to receive treatment.
Police arrested a 16-year-old boy, who is related to both victims, and took him into custody.
He is assisting police, and no charges have been laid. The boy is known to police, Securo said.
She said the incident was being investigated as a suspected family violence incident and that it would shake the local community.
Detective Acting Inspector Jessica Securo said the incident was “tragic”. 9News
