Prince William has revealed whether he thinks England can win the 2026 World Cup, his evaluation of new manager Thomas Tuchel and what he thinks success is for the team on a popular sports podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce. William made an unexpected cameo in a new episode of the brothers’ podcast New Heights today, just hours before NFL star Travis tied the knot with Taylor Swift.
Filmed after England played Croatia in their first group stage game of the World Cup, the Prince said he was feeling “quietly confident” about the team’s chances under new manager Thomas Tuchel.
“He’s got them into a really good frame of mind. The team playing with more freedom, more fluidity… Thomas I think, prefers to go a bit more out there, and if we lose, we lose playing the way we want to play. And if you’re going to score four, goals we’ll score five. And I think that’s a really good, really good attitude.”
With the World Cup being hosted across North America, Travis asked the prince what he thinks will be the biggest culture shock for Brits travelling to support the Three Lions.
“Is it the light beer?” he asked. Replying, William said: “Yeah, the beer definitely is going to taste different! I think for them. I think you haven’t met your match until you’ve met a lot of beer drinks from the UK. We can handle our own beer to anyone.”
On a more serious note, he said “the scale of the stadiums” will be the biggest surprise for fans before the trio returned to discuss how British pubs are the social heartbeat of football in the UK.
“Those rowdy evenings, those long afternoons, a few drinks, the social elements of it,” William explained. “You know, there are plenty of chants you guys don’t want to hear…They’re pretty spicy. They’re quite rude to broadcast.”
Laughing, Travis said: “Those are the ones we want!”
When asked what a successful World Cup is for England. William simply replied: “I think winning it.”
He then confirmed that he would attend the final if the Three Lions make it.
Full of optimism that they would make the final, the prince invited the brothers to watch it with him at the stadium.
