Search for Missing Teen’s Body Begins at Baton Rouge Landfill as Family Waits for Answers

More than a month after 15-year-old Ja’Derrius Minnieweather disappeared, investigators have begun an intensive search of a Baton Rouge landfill where they believe his body may have been taken after his alleged k!lling.
The emotional recovery mission officially started Monday with local, state and federal agencies working together in hopes of giving the teenager’s family the answers they have desperately awaited.
Weeks of Planning Lead to Monday’s Search
Before crews entered the landfill, investigators spent nearly two weeks preparing the site.
Specialized equipment, search tents and safety systems were installed while experts mapped out the precise area believed to contain the garbage collected shortly after Ja’Derrius disappeared.
Authorities say GPS data from sanitation trucks helped identify where the relevant load of trash was dumped.
Dangerous Conditions Slow the Search
Officials warn that searching an active landfill is unlike any ordinary investigation.
Searchers must monitor methane gas levels, wear full protective clothing and carefully examine every layer of debris while working in intense Louisiana heat.
Rainfall could also complicate recovery efforts in the coming days.
Investigators say they are committed to conducting the search carefully to avoid missing any potential evidence.
Investigation Continues
Police allege Maurice Parms murdered the teenager on June 5 before attempting to hide evidence of the crime.
Parms remains jailed on a charge of first-degree m-rd3r and, according to investigators, has not cooperated with detectives.
Authorities believe recovering Ja’Derrius’ remains could provide additional forensic evidence for prosecutors as the criminal case moves forward.
A Family Hoping for Closure
For Ja’Derrius’ loved ones, the search is about more than an investigation.
Police say bringing the teenager home would allow his family to begin the grieving process while also helping ensure justice is pursued through the courts.
Although officials acknowledge the search may take weeks, they remain hopeful that the coordinated effort will ultimately provide the answers the family has been waiting for.
