A Louisiana courtroom is now at the center of a heartbreaking case that has shocked the community for years as the murder trial begins for a couple accused of starving their adopted 12-year-old son to d3ath.

Complaints to Children & Family Services remain confidential, despite child's death

Adam Duhon, 44, and Jennifer Duhon, 43, appeared in court this week in Jeff Davis Parish, where jury selection officially began. The couple has each been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the 2022 d3ath of their adopted son, Brogan Duhon.

The long-awaited trial marks the latest chapter in a case that first drew national attention after investigators alleged Brogan had suffered extreme malnutrition before his d3ath.

Both defendants have remained behind bars since February 2023, each held on a $1 million bond, while prosecutors prepared the case.

Court proceedings are expected to continue throughout the week as jurors hear testimony from investigators, medical experts and other witnesses.

A Child’s Final Days

According to investigators, Brogan was just 12 years old when he d!ed in 2022.

Authorities previously said the young boy measured only about 42 inches tall and weighed approximately 28 pounds at the time of his d3ath. Defense attorneys have disputed that figure during earlier hearings, stating he weighed 47 pounds. The discrepancy has not been publicly explained.

The official cause of d3ath was determined to be severe malnutrition.

Questions Raised About Earlier Warnings

Brogan entered state custody in 2010 before being adopted by the Duhons two years later.

Records show Louisiana’s Department of Child and Family Services investigated the family in 2015 after receiving reports of suspected abuse. Officials confirmed evidence of abuse was found, and the family received services until 2016.

However, no additional abuse or neglect reports were officially documented after that period.

Investigators have also confirmed deputies conducted a welfare check at the family’s home only two months before Brogan’s d3ath.

Community Awaits Answers

As testimony begins, the trial is expected to revisit years of questions surrounding Brogan’s care, previous investigations and whether warning signs were missed.

The case has become one of the most closely watched child abuse prosecutions in Louisiana, with many hoping the courtroom proceedings will finally provide answers about what happened to the young boy.
