Prince Louis Has a New Dream Job—and It’s Not What Royal Fans Expected
5
Prince Louis may be one of the youngest members of the Royal Family, but according to Princess Catherine, he has already set his sights on a very unexpected future career.
During her visit to Wimbledon, the Princess of Wales revealed that her eight-year-old son has become fascinated by one of the tournament’s most iconic roles—and it isn’t being a tennis champion.
Louis Wants to Be a Wimbledon Ball Boy
While meeting members of Wimbledon’s court services team ahead of the Ladies’ Singles Final, Princess Catherine shared a charming family story with 18-year-old staff member Jenna Fontanilla.
According to Fontanilla, the Princess revealed that Prince Louis had been asking lots of questions about becoming one of Wimbledon’s famous ball boys.
“She told me about how Louis was asking her about how to become a ball boy,” Fontanilla later recalled.
The pair discussed the hard work involved in the role, with Catherine praising the dedication shown by the tournament’s young volunteers.
A Highly Competitive Role
Although Louis may dream about collecting balls on Centre Court one day, earning the position is far from easy.
Each year, around 1,400 young people apply to become Wimbledon ball boys and girls.
Only about 280 applicants are ultimately selected.
Training begins months before the Championships and includes fitness drills, ball-handling practice, written assessments and on-court exercises designed to prepare the teenagers for the world’s biggest tennis tournament.
Successful participants also receive Wimbledon’s famous Ralph Lauren uniform and the opportunity to work alongside the world’s top players.
Louis’ Growing Love of Tennis
The revelation is another glimpse into Prince Louis’ growing enthusiasm for tennis.
Although he has yet to attend Wimbledon publicly, Catherine has previously spoken about how much all three Wales children enjoy sport.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte accompanied their parents to this year’s Gentlemen’s Singles Final, while Louis remained at home.
Even so, Catherine’s comments suggest the youngest Wales sibling has been following the tournament closely from afar.
Another Dream for the Young Prince
Royal fans may remember that Louis has previously shown interest in several careers and hobbies, from aviation to military displays during public engagements.
His latest ambition adds another unexpected entry to that growing list—and one that delighted Wimbledon staff.
Catherine’s Warm Wimbledon Visit
Princess Catherine spent time meeting tournament staff, volunteers and players throughout the Championships before presenting the Ladies’ Singles Trophy and later returning for the Gentlemen’s Final.
Those who met her described the Princess as warm, relaxed and genuinely interested in learning about the people who help make Wimbledon one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events.
For many royal watchers, however, it was Louis’ unexpected dream job that became one of the most memorable stories of the tournament.
