Moaning, unconscious and unresponsive: Young man found critically injured on a Melbourne walking track — mysterious traces still found on his fingernails
A young man found critically injured on a major Melbourne walking track yesterday had no ID or personal belongings with him, and remains unidentified as police urgently seek his family.
Police were called to Kingsford Smith Ulm Reserve in Glenroy yesterday at about 4.10pm.

A passer-by had found a young man in an area below the Moonee Ponds Creek Viaduct, on the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail.
The young man was moaning and unconscious, but unresponsive.
He appeared to have no visible physical wounds but paramedics took him to hospital where it was determined he was critically injured.
The man, believed to be aged in his early 20s, did not have any belongings or identity documents with him, and police said “nothing of note” was found at the scene.
Overnight enquiries, including fingerprinting and checking missing person reports, have failed to establish the man’s identity.
He is described as Caucasian in appearance, about 175cm tall, with a slim build, hazel eyes, no facial hair, and shoulder-length curly, brown hair.
He was wearing a grey singlet top and ripped blue jorts.
He also had a residue of dark red nail polish on some fingernails.
Police say it’s not believed the man was assaulted, but the circumstances around the man’s injuries are unclear.
It’s believed he may have fallen or slipped from the viaduct.
Police are urgently seeking to identify the young man and contact his family due to the seriousness of his injuries.
