Three haunting words Lindsay Clancy said to her son while carrying out the horrific act no mother should ever commit

LINDSAY Clancy said three haunting final words to her son as she strangled him, a psychiatrist revealed to jurors.

The revelation was made in court on Friday as the defense rested its case which attempted to convince jurors the 36-year-old mom is not criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children due to her mental state.

On January 24, 2023, her husband Patrick came home from running errands to find Clancy lying injured outside under their bedroom window, and their three children dead in the basement of their Massachusetts home.

Five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson and eight-month-old Callan had been strangled with exercise bands by their mother, who was allegedly suffering from undiagnosed postpartum psychosis.

“First she took Dawson down to the basement,” and wrapped an elastic exercise band around his neck, Mack testified.

“While that was happening she was saying out loud, ‘Go to God.’”

He further added that the Catholic mom said similar phrases while killing her other two children.

“My understanding is that the sentiment ‘Go to God’ is a way of bestowing or thinking about the children as innocents, as ones who hadn’t done wrong while what she was doing was the opposite, was wrong or could be construed as wrong,” Mack said.

“‘Go to God’ not only was a hope for the children but a description of the situation.”

He had previously testified that Clancy told him a male voice instructed her to kill the children and then herself but that she carried out her crimes “methodically” knowing that it was wrong.

Meanwhile, the final witness called on Friday for the defense was Dr. Phillip Resnick, another forensic psychiatrist and expert in the killing of a child by a parent.

He testified that Clancy was “clearly psychotic” and that “it was almost like she was a puppet and someone else was pulling the strings.”

Resnick further said that in his hours of interviews with Clancy over four months after the murders, she would try to minimize her mental health symptoms rather than make them sound worse than they were.

He said she suffered from severe depression and showed symptoms in line with bipolar disorder.

According to the medical expert, she was experienced a “command hallucination” and “delusion of influence” on the day she killed the children.

“My opinion is that Ms Clancy was, due to her mental disease, unable to conform her conduct to the requirements of the law on the day that she took the lives of her children,” Resnick told jurors.

Closing arguments are set to be heard next week with jurors returning to court on Monday morning around 9am.

The harrowing trial which has dragged on for almost a month has seen the mother give several gut- wrenching reactions as she was forced to her testimony and evidence about the brutal deaths of her children.

On one occasion she broke down in tears and cried out “I can’t do this” as medical examiners described the injuries inflicted on the kids.

Another heavily watched moment came when Patrick entered the courtroom to testify, reportedly the first time Lindsay had seen him since the night their children died.
