TikTok, Stolen Cars & Murder: Chicago Teen Accused of Killing His Friend

A Chicago teen homicide case involving social media activity, stolen vehicle technology, and a fatal alleyway confrontation has led to murder charges against two young suspects, authorities confirmed.

Seventeen-year-old Xavier Colotti, a recent high school graduate, was killed on November 15, 2025, in what prosecutors describe as a targeted incident involving a dispute over vehicle theft tools. Two teenagers, 18-year-old DaVon White—also known by the nickname “Veno”—and 17-year-old Melvin Thomas, are now facing murder charges in connection with the case.

According to prosecutors, the conflict that led to Colotti’s death centered around a device known as a “Pro Pad,” a key-programming tool often associated with modern car theft operations. Authorities allege that the device became the focal point of a dispute that escalated into a deadly encounter.

Investigators say Colotti was lured to an alley under the pretense of a meeting. Surveillance footage reportedly shows him arriving at the location shortly before the confrontation began. Prosecutors allege that White opened fire on Colotti during the encounter, fatally striking him.

Following the shooting, Thomas—who was allegedly present at the scene wearing a hoodie marked with the word “death”—is said to have approached the victim. According to court filings, he was heard stating that he had recovered the “pad” before leaving the scene with White.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the role of digital communication and social media-related interactions between the individuals involved. Investigators recovered Colotti’s phone, which contained messages allegedly exchanged with Thomas arranging the meeting where the confrontation occurred. Authorities say the communications suggest the meeting was intended to involve the transfer or exchange of the Pro Pad device.

In addition to text messages, investigators also reviewed location data from the victim’s phone and social media posts connected to the suspects. Prosecutors argue that this digital evidence helps establish a timeline of events leading up to the killing and supports the claim that Colotti was intentionally drawn into a vulnerable position.

The combination of messaging records, location tracking, and surveillance footage has become central to the prosecution’s case. Officials say the evidence indicates coordination between the suspects prior to the incident, rather than a spontaneous confrontation.

Following the shooting, law enforcement launched an investigation that ultimately led to arrests months later. White was taken into custody in early 2026 on unrelated weapons charges involving possession of an automatic firearm. Investigators later linked the weapon to the Colotti case, resulting in additional murder charges against him. Thomas was subsequently charged alongside White in June 2026.

Authorities allege that the firearm recovered from White matched ballistic evidence collected from the crime scene, strengthening the prosecution’s case that he was directly involved in the fatal shooting.

The defendants are currently awaiting further court proceedings as prosecutors continue to build their case. Both face serious felony charges, including first-degree murder.

Beyond the legal developments, the case has raised broader concerns about youth involvement in organized car theft activity and the role of social media in facilitating dangerous encounters. Officials have pointed to the ease with which individuals can communicate, arrange meetings, and coordinate illicit activity online as a growing challenge for law enforcement.

Family members of the victim have described Colotti as a young man who had recently completed high school and was preparing for his future. His death has left his community mourning a life cut short under violent circumstances.
