A Queensland family has been left “shattered” after the shock deaths of a young mother and daughter in a crash that also left the child’s father fighting for life in hospital.
Emergency services were called to the Bruce Hwy at Canoona, north of Rockhampton, on Wednesday after reports two trucks had collided just before 11pm.
Kiarra, 21, and her two-year-old daughter Aleyna were passengers in one of the trucks and suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, both the mother and child were declared dead at the scene.
Kiarra’s partner and father to Aleyna, Brodie, 24, was ejected from his truck on impact, leaving him with multiple life-threatening injuries and burns.
He was airlifted in a critical condition to a hospital in Brisbane for specialist treatment.
The driver of the other truck, a 24-year-old NSW man, sustained only minor injuries.
Brodie’s mother Larissa said her “family was shattered” by the news.

“I take solace in knowing that they were all together at the time, as they chose to be,” she said.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to Kiarra’s family during this tragic time.”
Larissa said Brodie’s prognosis remains unknown, however, “we hope our love is enough and remain optimistic”.
“He has already had multiple surgeries, with many more still to come,” she said.
“Currently, he has no idea his girls are with the angels. And at some point, I still have to break this devastating news to him.”
Larissa said she is currently having to make the 10-hour drive to Brisbane to see her son and is struggling with mountings costs of funeral arrangements and medical expenditures, as well as the prospect of years of rehabilitation for Brodie.
“We are having to reach out and ask for help, something of which we would never do easily, nor without a heavy heart,” she said.
A GoFundMe has been created to help ease the burden as her family navigate their grief.
“As you can imagine, we are all devastated and have appreciated all your love and support thus far,” Larissa said.
“Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers.”
Police said investigations into the cause of the crash remain ongoing.
