Prince Harry is back in the United States—and once again in the spotlight.

Just days after concluding a headline-making visit to the United Kingdom, the Duke of Sussex made a surprise solo appearance at the TIME100 Sports Gala in New York City, where he was recognized as one of the TIME100 Most Influential People in Sports 2026.

The appearance marked Harry’s first major public engagement since returning from Britain, where his trip combined high-profile Invictus Games events with a private family reunion that captured global attention.

Recognized for the Invictus Games

TIME honored Harry in its “Leaders” category, recognizing the global impact of the Invictus Games, the international sporting competition he founded for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans.

Speaking to TIME, Harry reflected on the moment that inspired him to expand the idea into an international movement.

“I thought, ‘Wow, look at the power of sport, look at how it is literally changing lives in front of my very eyes.'”

Since launching in 2014, the Invictus Games have grown into one of Harry’s defining charitable achievements, bringing together competitors from around the world through the power of recovery and sport.

A Relaxed Moment on the Red Carpet

Harry appeared relaxed as he arrived at the gala without Meghan Markle.

Before entering the event, he joked with photographers waiting on the red carpet, telling them:

“The most polite set of photographers that I have ever met in my life.”

The lighthearted remark contrasted with the intense media attention that had followed him throughout his recent visit to Britain.

A Busy Week on Both Sides of the Atlantic

Harry’s New York appearance came only days after his return from the UK, where he attended events marking the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games.

Away from his public schedule, the Duke reportedly reunited privately with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House, joined by Meghan Markle, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The family gathering reportedly marked the King’s first in-person meeting with his California-based grandchildren since 2022.

Although neither Buckingham Palace nor the Sussexes have released details of the conversation, the meeting has been widely viewed as an important moment in the family’s ongoing efforts to rebuild relationships.

Royal Spotlight Continues

While Harry was receiving recognition in New York, discussion surrounding his relationship with the Royal Family continued in Britain.

Royal commentator Robert Jobson recently suggested that Prince William and Princess Catherine are now focused on their own responsibilities and family life, saying they have moved beyond the ongoing public drama involving the Sussexes.

Neither Kensington Palace nor the Sussexes have commented on those remarks.

For Harry, however, the New York gala shifted the focus back to one of the causes most closely associated with his public life.

After an eventful week filled with royal headlines, legal challenges and family reunions, the Duke ended it by accepting recognition for a project that has remained at the center of his work for more than a decade—the Invictus Games.
