Motherland fans will be thrilled to hear that the comedy‘s spin-off series Amandaland will return this Christmas.

The show follows the popular character Amanda from the original series, played by actress Lucy Punch, as she navigates life post divorce.

In both Motherland and the spin-off, Joanna plays Amanda’s hilarious mum Felicity.

It had already been confirmed that fans would be getting a second series of Amandaland and now a Christmas special is in the works.

It came when host Chris asked the iconic actress what she is up to now, to which she replied: “Just busy, busy, busy, busy.

“I’m just about to start another series of Amandaland which was the spin-off from Motherland, which was a gorgeous, wild success.

“Clever, clever Lucy Punch. We’re just about to start seven more episodes and one is a Christmas special for this year.”

Confirmation that the show will be doing a festive episode will thrill fans.

Earlier this year Amandaland co-creator Sharon Horgan kept tight lipped about the possibility of a Christmas special, and when asked simply said: “We’re not allowed to say.”

The Bad Sisters star’s coy response came following the announcement in March that the Motherland spin-off would be back for season 2.

Sharon said in a statement at the time: “The incredible cast and writers, director and production team worked so hard on this show and it’s so wonderful to see that hard work pay off.

“Special thanks to Lucy for being the most extraordinary front woman and to the BBC for having such faith in the idea of Amandaland from the off.”

Joanna has enjoyed an incredible career which includes both the big and small screen.

She shot to fame when she played a Bond girl in the 1969 flick, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

In the 70s she was known for playing the role of a spy named Purdey in The New Avengers.

Two decades later, she won critical acclaim and a global fanbase for her role as the iconic Patsy Stone in Absolutely Fabulous.

But in May, the legendary star shocked fans when she revealed that she doesn’t have “much time left” in a candid confession about ageing.

It came during an interview with Vernon Kay on his Radio 2 show.

During their chat, she reflected on her career and how she feels about the future.

“As you nearly the top of the hill, you suddenly think, ‘Gosh, there’s not all that much time left,’” she told the host.

“My time must be coming quite soon, and I don’t want to have wasted a minute of being on this beautiful planet. I used to panic when I was young, but as I’ve got older, I’ve started to live day-to-day.

“With age, you work out what matters. I always knew that good stuff would come along when I was older.

“When I was 18, I longed to be 30. When I was 30, I longed to be 50. We mustn’t be led into thinking getting old is bad. Growing old is good.”
