In a fiery post-villa interview, dumped Love Island star Ope Sowande has launched a pointed rebuttal against his former partner Angelista Gunda, accusing her of overreacting to comments he now defends as relatively innocuous.

Ope, who was dramatically evicted from the ITV2 villa alongside bombshell Victoria Onanusi following a brutal Truth or Dare ranking game, showed little remorse for his earlier admissions that landed him in hot water. Instead, he doubled down on his perspective, framing Angelista’s strong reaction as disproportionate.
“I think if they were on the dates, I feel like they would’ve acted the same,” Ope said of the moment he confessed to fearing incoming bombshells would be “hot.” “I don’t think anything I did was that crazy to be honest. But I acknowledged that someone’s feelings were hurt and that’s why I apologised. I felt like it was a slight overreaction.”

The remarks in question — which included Ope openly admitting to a “wandering eye” while coupled with Angelista — were branded “disrespectful” and even “horrifying” by the nurse, sparking widespread backlash both inside the villa and among viewers. The controversy nearly cost him his place in the public’s good graces long before his official dumping.
A Connection Built on Compromise
Reflecting on his short-lived romance with Angelista, Ope offered a candid assessment of their compatibility issues. He revealed that the pair were not each other’s usual types but attempted to build something genuine amid the pressures of villa life.
“We got to the stage where we were clicking,” he explained, “a lot of things just got in the way — my behaviour on date night and Simba coming in. It might have gone somewhere but I don’t think it would’ve lasted long.”

Tensions boiled over in the villa when Ope reportedly branded Angelista a “liar” during an explosive row with newcomer Simba, after which she chose to end their coupling. Shortly afterward, bombshell Victoria Onanusi selected Ope as her partner — a brief alliance that ended almost as quickly as it began.
On his connection with Victoria, Ope was pragmatic: “I don’t think there was an instant spark with Victoria. I think I can get on with anyone.”
The Savage Dumping That Ended It All
Ope and Victoria’s fate was sealed during a high-stakes Truth or Dare game on Friday night. New islander Namibia was tasked with ranking all current pairings from strongest to weakest. She placed Sean and Lola at the top and, fatefully, designated Ope and Victoria as the weakest link.
Unaware of the full consequences, Namibia’s ranking triggered a villa text confirming the pair’s immediate eviction. Ope’s reaction was visceral — he erupted with frustration, shouting “For f*** sake!” before breaking down in tears and sobbing into Sean’s chest.
The exit marked the end of a tumultuous journey for Ope, whose “wandering eye” confession and subsequent defence have kept him at the centre of island drama and public discourse.
While some may view his post-exit comments as a bold blindsiding of Angelista, others see them as a revealing look at the emotional calculations and survival instincts that define the Love Island experience. Whether his unfiltered honesty was refreshing or reckless remains a matter of heated debate — but one thing is certain: Ope Sowande left the villa the same way he navigated it: unapologetically himself.
