The couple returned to his farm in Adelaide and tried to settle into ordinary life. Almost immediately, a heavy sense of guilt set in. Dylan could not shake the feeling that Ally was sacrificing her own plans and lifestyle to chase a dream that was never truly hers.
“We went back to [my farm] in Adelaide and just yeah went about normal life for a bit, and then it kind of all got a bit much,” he said. “I felt like I was stringing her along a dream that wasn’t hers.”
After roughly two weeks, Dylan ended the relationship. He admitted he handled the conversation poorly and failed to communicate as clearly as he should have. Ally did not want to break up. She begged him to keep trying and was willing to make significant sacrifices. Dylan refused, believing it would be cruel to continue when he was unwilling to compromise on the life he wanted.
His dream centres on working with horses and becoming a successful saddle bronc rider. He has been riding for two years and is only now beginning to make progress. Those two trajectories, Dylan concluded, simply did not align.
“I just felt like Ally is a really cool chick, and I think she’s got her future planned out, and she knows what she wants, and I think she deserves the bloke that’s gonna give that to her, not some fella that’s not really willing to compromise on his dream for someone else,” he explained. “I don’t think it’s fair on her to jeopardise her future to chase my dream.”
Looking back, Dylan acknowledges he got swept up in the heightened emotion of the Farmer Wants a Wife experience. The long “honeymoon period” of the show prevented him from examining whether their lives could realistically fit together once the cameras left. Only when ordinary farm life resumed did the mismatch become impossible to ignore.
The breakup left him gutted, even though he was the one who initiated it. “I felt gutted, but it was self-inflicted,” he said. Five months later, he stands by the decision. He does not regret it, believing it was the fairer outcome for Ally even if she could not see it that way at the time.
Contact between the pair stopped completely after the split. An unexpected group chat involving runner-up Scarlett later reopened the lines of communication. The three have since become good mates. Dylan and Ally now speak a couple of times a week, catching up or talking through worries. The relationship has settled into genuine friendship, but any romantic future is firmly closed.
“Nah, I think it’s completely done,” Dylan said. “I think in the long run we won’t align, and that’s something that’s important to me. And I know it’s important to Ally.”
