Princess Catherine looked effortlessly elegant as she stepped out in Italy this afternoon, marking a major milestone moment in her royal return, rocking an eye-catching ensemble. The Princess of Wales, 44, appeared in Reggio Emilia for the start of a hugely significant two-day solo visit centred around her long-running early years campaign.
Crowds gathered in their droves to catch a glimpse of the future Queen as she arrived in the Italian city, with Catherine warmly greeting well-wishers who lined the streets waving Union Jack flags and cheering her arrival. For the landmark engagement, the Princess stepped out in a striking powder blue tailored suit featuring a sharply cut blazer layered over a soft white blouse and flowing wide-leg trousers, accessorised with matching heels and a structured top-handle handbag that perfectly complemented the tonal look.
Wearing her signature brunette hair in soft loose waves, Catherine appeared relaxed and radiant as she stopped to smile, wave and chat with members of the public during the warmly received visit.

In keeping with her long-held philosophy of letting her work take centre stage, the Princess of Wales appeared to opt for a sophisticated ensemble that did not distract from the purpose of the overseas visit.
Rather than leaning into bold fashion statements, Catherine’s look reflected the polished yet understated style she has increasingly embraced for major early years engagements in recent years.
The visit is particularly important for Catherine, as it marks her first solo overseas engagement in more than four years and her first international travel since her cancer diagnosis and gradual return to public duty
Reggio Emilia was specifically chosen due to its world-renowned approach to early childhood education – an issue the Princess has spent years championing through her Early Years Project and wider work around child development.
Earlier today, Kensington Palace said Catherine was feeling “energised and enthused” ahead of the visit, which comes eighteen months after the princess revealed she was in remission.
Palace aides also described the trip as an “important step” in her recovery as she returns to public life with renewed focus on her long-term early years work.

“This is a huge moment for the princess,” an aide said. “There will be many highlights of 2026 but this being her first international visit post her recovery… this is a really significant moment for her.”
They added: “I think it is only right that her first international trip since her illness is one that is focused on an issue that she is committed to championing for decades to come, and is a real issue that she wants to shine a spotlight on.”
Catherine’s two-day trip will centre around the importance of a child’s first five years and the long-term impact early development can have across later life. During the visit, the princess is expected to learn more about the globally recognised Reggio Emilia approach to education, which focuses heavily on creativity, emotional development and child-led learning.
