Mel Schilling’s husband has paid tribute to the late Married At First Sight expert on their wedding anniversary.
The 53-year-old tragically died earlier this year after a years-long cancer battle that started in her bowel and eventually metastasised to other parts of her body, including her brain.
She left behind her husband, Gareth Brisbane, and her young daughter, Maddie.
Gareth has marked the bittersweet moment they tied the knot nearly a decade ago in a sweet message on Mel’s Instagram page.
“Hard to reconcile that the anniversary of the happiest day of my life could become one of the saddest,” he said.
“We didn’t quite make 8 years married or 15 years together, but what a love and what a life we had.
“By the end of our first date, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you, and my love for you burned ever brighter, even as your own light faded.
“Sleep easy, my girl.”
The dad shared photos of him and Mel kissing on their wedding day, surrounded by their nearest and dearest.
He said that he and Maddie were in the “best possible place” to heal from Mel’s death.
The pair moved from the UK to Bali earlier this year to start their “next chapter”, and it’s where they have some of their “dearest friends”.
Gareth added that Mel would have been “so proud” of the young woman that Maddie was becoming.
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal,” he said.
Shortly after Mel’s death, Gareth revealed that he scattered some of her ashes at a lighthouse in Northern Ireland, which was one of her wishes.
“It’s a special place that really resonated with her, a place where strangers say hello as you pass, and a place we can now come back to reflect on our incredible 15 years together,” he said back in April.

Gareth said that came after a “lovely private ceremony” attended by family and close friends.
Maddie gave a “beautiful” speech and her dad said he “couldn’t have been prouder” of her for speaking about her late mum.
“Thanks so much for all the messages of support over the past month since our girl’s passing, Maddie and I have drawn enormous strength from how so very loved she was and is,” he added.
Mel was a relationship expert and appeared on nearly every season of Married At First Sight.
Shortly before her death, she revealed she would be stepping back from the Channel 9 show and its UK version to focus on her health.
