Kensington Palace have shared a new message from the Prince of Wales ahead of England’s first game against Croatia in the World Cup this evening. A devoted football fan and Patron of the Football Association (FA), Prince William recently made a secret visit to St George’s Park to wish the team well in person before they travelled to the US.

Taking to social media to share a personal message, Prince William wrote: “Good luck to England ahead of their first World Cup group match tonight! Here’s to a great tournament ahead. [muscle and rocket emojis] W.”

Prince William most recently watched his beloved Aston Villa storm to victory in the Europa League back in May.

Chatting to staff and England manager Thomas Tuchel during his recent visit to St George’s Park, the Prince told the team’s staff: “You don’t get as much acknowledgement or credit as you deserve.”

From coaches and analysts shaping tactics and performance, to medical, nutrition and sports science teams responsible for player welfare and recovery, William heard how each of their roles are crucial to the team’s performance when he visited the training ground on May 11.

He also met those managing the complex logistics of international football, including travel, security and kit staff who ensure the squad has everything it needs to perform at the highest level.

“Go with my blessings and my best wishes to all of you. Enjoy it, look after each other and give your best. I’m sure we will do well, so good luck.”

Tuchel told William: “It gets bigger and bigger – the team behind the team – so many specialists, from nutritionists to analysts and set pieces.”

Despite being a passionate football fan, it remains unknown whether the Prince will travel Stateside at any point during the competition, which is being staged in the United States, Canada and Mexico, to cheer on the teams.
