While Meghan Markle was serving food, one woman was serving up the compliments.

During the first day of Meghan and Prince Harry’s trip to Australia on April 14, the Duchess of Sussex, 44, made a solo stop to a center run by McAuley Community Services for Women, which supports women and children experiencing family violence, homelessness and related challenges. There, she donned an apron and served frittata to those at the center.

At one point, Meghan was introduced to a woman named Leah, as seen in a video shared by Hello! magazine.

“All right, Leah, how hungry are we?” the Duchess of Sussex asked as she cut into the pan.

Leah told Meghan, “You look amazing. You look like a model,” to which she replied, “Oh my gosh, that’s so generous.”

Leah continued, “You’ve got children, and you don’t have wrinkles. Nice glow as well.”

Shaking her head, Meghan responded, “You are so nice.”

“It was nice to meet you,” Leah said before grabbing her dish, and Meghan shared the same sentiment.

Meghan has previously spoken about embracing her natural skin, including her freckles — despite previously being told “freckles aren’t a sign of beauty.”

During a makeup-free podcast interview with IT Cosmetics founder Jamie Kern Lima last year, Meghan said, “And I remember [I could not be submitted] for beauty or skincare ads because I had freckles,” adding, “They’re like, ‘No, no, no, no. It’s just never gonna work because freckles aren’t a sign of beauty.’ “

“I heard no all the time, especially because I wasn’t cookie-cutter for a specific type,” she explained. “And at the start of my auditioning career, you were either the Black girl or the white girl or the Latina girl or the like, everything was typecast.”

During the visit to the shelter, Meghan also sat down at a table and joined people eating food, telling them, “We landed here this morning, so my jet lag hasn’t quite hit yet.”

Meghan and Prince Harry’s visit to Australia marks their return to the continent nearly eight years after their royal tour brought them to Australia, New Zealand, Tonga and Fiji. Since then, they’ve stepped back from their royal roles and relocated to her home state of California, and the couple are undertaking this trip privately.

Their first day also included stops at the Royal Children’s Hospital and a gathering with veteran families at the Australian National Veterans’ Art Museum, both in Melbourne.
