A federal magistrate judge has ordered Detroit rapper Allstar JR, whose legal name is Jeremy Christopher Ford, held without bond pending trial in a firearms case tied to a shooting in Houston. The ruling followed an April 27 detention hearing in Detroit, where the court assessed risk factors under federal law.

In a written finding, U.S. Magistrate Judge Kimberly G. Altman concluded that “no condition or combination of conditions” would reasonably assure Ford’s appearance or the safety of the community.

The court evaluated the nature of the alleged offense, the weight of the evidence, and Ford’s history. It held that the government satisfied its burden to justify detention.

According to the criminal complaint, the charges arise from a shooting inside a Houston restaurant earlier this month. Prosecutors allege Ford, who is charged as a felon in possession of a firearm, became involved in a confrontation that escalated after a reported robbery attempt.

During a struggle, a firearm allegedly fell to the ground. Authorities claim Ford retrieved the weapon and fired as individuals fled the scene.

Investigators state that one person was struck and collapsed, while others ran for cover. The complaint further alleges that additional shots were fired toward another individual after the initial exchange. The case has drawn public attention, in part, due to reports that NBA Ben 10 was among those injured.

Prosecutors also pointed to social media posts and a music video they contend reference the incident, which may factor into the government’s evidentiary presentation.

Following the detention order, authorities are preparing to transfer Ford to Texas. His initial appearance in federal court there is set for May 14, 2026. He remains in custody as the case proceeds.
