Strictly Come Dancing viewers have applauded one of the programme’s judges for their support of Ellie Goldstein, declaring “how can anyone not” champion her in the contest.

The model and actress dazzled in the ballroom once more on Saturday evening (October 25), having secured her place in week five with professional dance partner Vito Coppola.

It marked the second-ever Icons Week on the beloved BBC One dance programme, with Ellie embodying Baby Spice – otherwise known as Emma Bunton – for her and Vito’s salsa to a Spice Girls’ medley.

Following their routine, which earned them a solid 28 points, Claudia Winkleman disclosed that she had a special surprise awaiting Ellie.

“Ellie, we know you love the Spice Girls,” the co-presenter commenced. “We know you love Baby Spice. Somebody really, really wants to send you a message,” she continued, as Ellie appeared visibly astonished and informed Vito: “I can’t believe that!”, reports the Manchester Evening News.

In a video message, singer and radio presenter Emma declared: “I have been watching you every week – and you’re my favourite. And then I heard that I’m your favourite Spice Girl!

“I’m honoured, and I just want to tell you – I think you are a superstar. Thank you so much for dancing to our songs, the other girls are sending all their love and good luck with the scores!”

However, it was Craig’s remarks that sparked discussion amongst fans. “I love the energy,” he commented, before noting that he believes Ellie requires more hip rotation, which prompted a chorus of boos from the audience.

He further stated that he wanted to see improved transitions from Ellie, but acknowledged the incredible personality she brings to the dance floor.

In a rare occurrence, Strictly fans lauded Craig for his constructive criticism aimed at helping Ellie improve, while others continued to celebrate her and Vito’s delightful partnership.

@RyanSoapKing25 expressed: “Fully respect Craig for subtly critiquing Ellie in the correct way without coming off as patronising. This is why he’s the best judge. #Strictly.”
