The Prince of Wales has spoken about his wife during an appearance on Heart Breakfast this morning.
Prince William has said his family “couldn’t cope” without his wife, Catherine, as he said he is “so proud” of her return to full-scale duties following her cancer ordeal. William paid a personal tribute to the princess during an appearance on Heart radio’s breakfast show this morning, describing her as “an amazing mum and an amazing wife”.
The future king appeared live on the breakfast show, broadcast from a cafe on the Isles of Scilly, alongside hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden. In a wide-ranging interview, William joked about the chaotic school run, a potential invite to Taylor Swift’s wedding, his love of dance music and was asked to settle the great scone debate.
Settling down with a cup of builder’s tea, the prince described how “very, very proud” he was of the Princess of Wales’s successful visit to Italy last week.

“She’s been amazing,” he said. “She’s been through so much in the last couple of years, particularly. She’d been looking forward to the Italian trip a lot, and so I’m really glad it went really well. William added: “She came back buzzing.”
Catherine received a rapturous welcome from the people of the Italian city of Reggio Emilia, where she learnt about an innovative approach to teaching young children pioneered in the city over two days.
An aide to the princess last week described the trip as a “huge moment” for the princess, who was diagnosed with cancer at the start of 2024 and underwent six months of gruelling chemotherapy. It marked her first overseas tour since the health scare, and she hopes to undertake further trips this year.
Reflecting on her visit to Italy last week, Jamie said to the prince: “It must have been a difficult time back then with the kids as well and seeing her fulfill those duties must have made you very happy.”
“Yeah, very much so,” William replied. “She’s an amazing mum and an amazing wife and literally our family couldn’t cope without her. So she has been absolutely stunning, really has.”

He said his wife is “edging herself back” into doing more overseas visits following her successful cancer treatment, but cautioned royal trips take their toll, so they have to “make sure she’s OK and rested”.
Having reflected on how exhausting foreign trips can be, Amanda piped in and said: “You have to balance it with maybe a glass of wine and some pasta on the sly. I’m hoping she grabbed that.” Laughing, William said: “We all need a glass of wine every now and again, Amanda.”
The prince took part in the interview ahead of his visit to the Isles of Scilly Hospital to meet staff and patients, and to open a new facility that has increased medical capacity for the Isles.
The lighthearted conversation saw him reflect on his childhood memories coming here with his parents and now carries on that tradition with his own children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, eight.
“It’s a place like no other,” he said. “It’s kind of a different world down here, it’s beautiful… The beaches are amazing; you can see the water is crystal clear. I mean, there is so much to do down here as a family. It’s fantastic!”

Discussing the chaos of the morning school run, the prince admitted that it can be difficult getting everyone out of the house on time with the right kit, something every parent can sympathise with.
Addressing his children directly, who he said were tuning in, William said: “Charlotte and Louis, because George is boarding last night, if you’re listening, make sure you’re on time, please. Make sure you’re not fighting over who’s listening to what this morning.”
Asked whether the children were “fiends” for snacks, he added: “Yeah, there’s a lot of jam sandwiches taken in the car, usually. Louis will leave jam fingerprints through the car, which is really helpful.”
