Prince William gave a rare glimpse into life at home with wife Kate – and what she has filled their bedroom with. It came as he spoke of his pride in the Princess of Wales and admitted the family “couldn’t cope without her”.

William appeared on Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden, where he was asked about his wife and her trip to Italy earlier this month – her first official overseas visit since her cancer diagnosis and treatment in 2024.

During the chat, Amanda asked William how proud he was of his wife after she received a rapturous reception on her trip to Reggio Emilia, which was a fact-finding mission for her early years project.

And revealing Kate’s nightly set-up, he said: “She wanted to do a lot of research, god knows how much time now looking through all the paperwork.

“She’s a proper pro on early years, and most evenings I’m fighting to get past in the bedroom all the paperwork she’s got lined up to read. So I’m so pleased it went so well for her, and I think she came back buzzing.”

Jamie chipped in and also asked William how happy he was that Kate’s trip had been successful – especially given her health worries over the past two years.

And paying tribute to his wife, the prince said: “Very much so, she’s an amazing mum and an amazing wife, and literally our family couldn’t cope without her so she’s been absolutely stunning.”

He also hinted at future trips for Kate but added: “She is kind of edging herself back into doing more and more of those trips, away trips like that take a lot out of you because you’re on the permanent receiving end the whole time, so we have to balance that and make sure she’s rested.”

In the wide-ranging interview, William also joked about doing the school run, his love of dance music and how he still follows his late grandmother, the Queen’s rule for making scones – cream first then jam.

He also revealed how his oldest son, Prince George, 12, sometimes boards at school. When asked by the hosts if he had a message for his children, he said: “Charlotte and Louis, because George is boarding last night, if you’re listening, make sure you’re on time, please. Make sure you’re not fighting over who’s listening to what this morning.”

George’s school, Lambrook, a private preparatory school for pupils aged up to 13, offers flexible boarding to all students. Children aged aged seven to 13 can stay from five nights a week to one night every so often.

It has always been thought that the siblings are day pupils, and it appears to be the first time it has been revealed that George, who turns 13 in July, sometimes boards.

In September, the second-in-line to the throne will enrol in secondary school as he is currently in his last term at Lambrook. It has not been confirmed where he will go next, but if he were to go to his father’s former school of Eton, he would be expected to board full-time.

Meanwhile, William also joked about receiving an invitation to the highly anticipated summer wedding of Taylor Swift and her American football partner, Travis Kelce, at first saying “no comment” and laughing.

William, who took his two eldest children to a Swift concert last year and introduced them to the singer backstage, said: “That feels like a showbiz excuse, but it’s not. I’m hoping, and I’m sure there might be an invitation around, but we’ll see.”
