Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s trip to Australia is bringing back memories of their 2018 royal tour.

On the morning of Friday, April 17 (local time), the couple sailed around Sydney Harbor alongside Invictus Australia, the Australian branch of Prince Harry’s Invictus Games.

Upon arriving, Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, spent time at Bondi Beach, meeting volunteer first responders from the Bondi Surf Bathers’ Life Saving Club in Sydney. Founded in 1907, the organization played a critical role in protecting beachgoers and saving lives during the Dec. 14 terrorist attack against the Jewish community.

They also met with representatives from the Sydney Jewish Museum, which is preparing to open an exhibition on the attacks. During the visit, Harry and Meghan viewed artifacts that will be featured in the display, including well-wishing messages and illustrations honoring members of the public who were hailed as heroes for helping others during the attack.

During a visit, Meghan was gifted a playful pair of custom flip-flops reading “G’Day Megs” by Invictus Australia veteran Joel Vanderzwan.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex last visited Australia in October 2018, on an official royal tour that included attending the Invictus Games in Sydney. During that visit to the continent, Prince Harry and Meghan also sailed in Sydney Harbor with members of the Invictus Games.

During the 2018 excursion, the pair laughed and hugged the American sailors manning the boat. The couple had announced Meghan’s pregnancy with their first child, Prince Archie, only days earlier.

The Invictus Games are a Paralympic-style competition for wounded and recovering service members and veterans from around the world. Founded by Prince Harry, they include sports such as wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball and indoor rowing.

Earlier during the Australia trip, the Duke of Sussex attended the Invictus Australia Reception, where he announced the launch of the Invictus Australia Sports Festival, a brand-new international adaptive sports event that will take place in Perth, Australia, in October 2026.

Referencing the inspiration for the Invictus Games — the Warrior Games, which is organized by the United States Department of Defense for wounded, injured or ill service personnel and veterans — Prince Harry said, “What began in 2014 as an idea stolen from the Americans to use sport as a vehicle for recovery and connection has developed into a global movement.”

Prince Harry and Meghan have attended several public and private events in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney this week.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex landed in Melbourne on Tuesday, April 14. Their first day included a visit to the Royal Children’s Hospital (which Prince Harry’s mom, Princess Diana, also visited in 1985) and a solo engagement for Meghan at a women’s shelter.

On Wednesday, Prince Harry made a solo outing with the charity Movember, speaking about fatherhood and mental health, and also met veterans at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. Meanwhile, Meghan made a surprise appearance as a guest judge on the cooking show MasterChef Australia.

On Thursday, the pair attended the Scar Tree Walk, a nature walk honoring Australia’s Aboriginal population. They then attended a youth mental health group and the InterEdge Summit, where Prince Harry gave a keynote speech.
