The drama behind Jimmy Kimmel getting ripped off the air in September has led many to wonder about the future of late-night TV. The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart opens up about his plans for the future following Paramount’s merger with Skydance.

Will Jon Stewart Renew His Contract?
Stewart spoke with editor David Remnick, according to Deadline, at the New Yorker’s festival and if he’s planning to renew his The Daily Show contract with Comedy Central.
“We’re working on staying. Look, the other thing to remember is it’s not as clear cut as all that … They’ve already done things that I’m upset about,” said Stewart
“But then if I had integrity, maybe I would stand up and go, ‘I’m out.’ Or maybe the integrity thing to do would be to stay in it and keep fighting in the foxhole,” he added.
Ever since the recent acquisition of Paramount by David Ellison’s Skydance, many have worried about late-night shows in the current political era under President Donald Trump. The genre of TV has taken a big hit with the cancellation of CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and ABC’s preemption of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Stewart has kept his head high and sums up working for the newly merged company as: “You don’t compromise on what you do, and you do it until they tell you to leave.”

The host has since not kept quiet about current politics or Trump, having aired the September episode after Kimmel was pulled with fake smiles and referring to Trump as “father,” and pledged to be “patriotically obedient.”
Stewart originally began hosting The Daily Show in 1999 before departing in 2015. Fans were in shock and awe when he announced his return to the late-night desk in 2024.
Since then, he has been appearing weekly on Monday nights, providing his signature blend of political satire and sharp commentary while navigating the ever-changing media landscape. His current contract is soon to expire at the end of the year.

Last month, Hulu debuted the new exclusive series Chad Powers, starring Glen Powell as a disgraced college quarterback using a disguise to make an unlikely comeback. While the first series of the show was just six episodes long and ended on a major cliffhanger, it’s not certain whether or not there will be a second season.
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter following the conclusion of the first season of the show, series co-creator and showrunner Michael Waldron opened up a little bit on the status of a potential second season of the show.
